Eddie POV

As we drove up to Lover's Lake the next day, I couldn't help but feel the excitement in me bubble up. Y/N had embraced her role as van DJ and was rifling through my tapes as we sang along to Living After Midnight by Judas Priest.

"You really love English metal bands don't you?" I chuckled, quickly glancing over to see her bobbing her head to the rhythm.

"mmm hmm" she replied happily, as her attention stayed focused solely on the tapes "They just do it best, you know? AND you can talk" she teased "Black Sabbath are from the UK too".

Well you've got me there.

"I can't deny my love for Ozzy" I drawled, "But Metallica have my heart".

"Oh well in that case" She started, finally selected a new tape, "Kill 'Em All it is." She smiled, swapping the tapes and letting Hit The Lights blare loud in the van.

It didn't take long to arrive at Rick's house. The guy was cool, only a few years older than us and owns his own home. He must have heard the van approaching because he was already standing on the porch when we approached, smirking.

"Van Halen!" He called, arms wide as he rushed me in a boyish tackle. "How you doing my guy? Haven't seen you in a while" he messed up my hair with his forearm before slinging an arm around my shoulder and giving me a massive welcoming hug. Rick was like a big brother to me, always looked out for me.

"Hey man, it's been too long" I replied happily slapping him on the back.

"Who's this?" He said, a knowing smile gracing his face as he heard Y/N's door click open, "Hey there, I'm Rick, but you can call me any time" he winked, delighting in the blush that raised on Y/N's cheeks as she shook his hand. "Oh come on none of those formalities" he chuckled, pulling her in by her hand for a quick hug "Any friend of Van Halen's is a friend of mine...So what brings you two out to the lake?"

"I was going to take Y/N here over to the shore but we need some supplies" I smiled at him.

"You're my best salesman, Eds" He beamed with pride, "Sure, come on in, I'll sort you out." He turned on his heels and we followed him in.

I loved Rick's house, much like my own it felt warm and inviting. Rick wasn't like the drug dealers you hear about on the news, the ones that suck in innocent kids and corrupt them into doing their bidding. He treated me like family should, always there for me, he would give me the shirt off his back if I needed it. Those days, when my dad was still about and it got rough, Reefer's house was a safe haven I could escape to.

He emerged from the back room with my usual stock for the month and handed it over, "You're my best guy out there Van, the man could sell ice to an Eskimo" he laughed, producing a smaller bag of weed "This one's on me, a gift for the lovers" he winked handing it over.

"Thanks Reefer" I beamed, "You ready to head out?" I asked Y/N who had been smiling at the whole encounter.

"Sure" she beamed, turning to Rick, "It was great meeting you" He just returned her smile and then ushered us out.

"Go on kids, have fun. Same time next month Eds" he patted me on the shoulder before whispering in my ear, "She's great" Pride surged through me. First Wayne approved, now Rick. I couldn't help the involuntary smile.

We bundled back into the van and travelled further along the edge of the lake, to a slightly raised shore line where I could back up the truck. I looked over to see Y/N bemused looking out of the van to forest in front "Here we are sweetheart"
