"Psst Y/N" I look over to Robin at the adjacent desk trying to flag my attention. Finally successful, her eyes dart to my desk and back up to me. I follow her frantic pointing down to my notebook where I find a folded up note. When did that get there? I think as I open it up;
Are you going to Tina's party?
I look up, eyebrow raised. Why couldn't this wait until later? I think, nodding yes to my friend and returning my gaze back to the front of the class where Mrs Carmen, our English teacher, was discussing the themes of Hamlet. Moments later another note lands on my desk with a soft pat, this time catching my attention. I open it without looking over to Robin;
Steve wants to go. But I'm not going if you don't. He was a nightmare last year.
Peaking up to check the teacher isn't paying attention, I turn the note over sprawling my reply in my own writing;
Yeah, I was planning on it. Why? Do you need a wing woman to help you finally get with Steve "The hair" Harrington? ; )
I wait for an opportune moment to flick the note back to her. Keeping my eyes fixed on her face for her reaction. She opens it and there is a slight pause before she snorts with laughter at my question. Quickly slapping her hand across her mouth in horror, stuffing the note into her pocket as all eyes are now on her.
"Anything you'd like to share with the class Miss Buckley?" Mrs Carmen questions from the front of the class.
Robin, now the shade of a tomato, tries to shrug it off, "Oh no, just involuntary spasm" she sheepishly laughs, "you know how it is" her voice trails off as Mrs Carmen scoffs at her excuse waving her off and continuing with the class. She turns to me mouthing You're dead with a smile as I hold in a laugh.

"What was that about Y/N?" She asks, catching up with me after class. "The Hair, really?" She laughs hitting me lightly on the back of the shoulder.
"You're the one that said he wanted to go, I'm just putting two and two together here Miss Buckley" I tease her.
"And coming up with five!" she rasps. Steve and Robin have been best friends for years. Surely they have feelings for each other? They're practically a package deal. "Me and Steve? We're just friends, it would never work. Ergh. I can't believe you'd even think I was in to him like that" she mocks disgust. "Anyway, what I meant was, if he's going we should really go too to keep an eye on him after last year"
"What happened last year?"
"You know how I told you Nancy left Steve for Johnathan?"
"mhmm"
"Well... that all started last year at Tina's Halloween party. Nancy got wasted and ended up calling their love bullshit or whatever and then left with Johnathan" I stop walking down the hall, turning to Robin with shock plastering my face.
"Oh god, that's terrible" I whisper, "why would he want to go back there?"
"Hey, being basically publicly dumped in front of all your friends can really do stuff to a man. But we should still keep an eye on him in case it gets too hard for him" she looks at me for reassurance.
"Of course, I guess we'll have to baby sit the babysitter for once, won't we?" I laugh, Robin joining in a little half-heartedly. As we approach out lockers we spot Steve leaning against them, bored, waiting for us.
"Just don't tell him I told you okay Y/N? I'm sure he doesn't want anyone new to know but I think it's important in case anything happens" she meets my eyes with a thoughtful expression.
