"How much hair spray to you need Steve?" I question sarcastically as I eye up his dresser and the quite frankly family sized bottle of Farrah Fawcett spray. So that's how he gets his hair so big.
"You're telling me his hair isn't like that naturally?" Robin joins in with mock shock as she throws herself back on the bed dramatically, "The female population of Hawkins must never find out...it would break them" her line sending us both into barely contained laughter as Steve enters with three beers and pizza boxes.
"You two think you're so funny" he rolls his eyes with a smirk, "Make fun all you want, the ladies dig the hair, it's all about the products!" he adds passing out the drinks.
"Sure, King Steve" Robin cheers his drink with hers before taking a sip.
"What I'm more interested in, is why Munson came out of this ones house earlier with that smug look on his face" Steve turns to face me, drink outstretched as I felt the blood rush to my face.
"Oh that face tells a thousand words!" Robin teased, "Spill it!"
"He missed me and wanted to come say hi before the party" I couldn't even make eye contact with Steve, I wasn't lying I was just omitting the part where he rocked my world so to speak. I didn't want them to think I'd gone too far too quickly, What if they thought I was rushing it? Steve has the godly power of Mom guilt that can make any person feel ashamed with one look. But when I finally decided to glance up at him, I gaped in shock and the mischievous, knowing smile on his face.
"Oh really? That's it, he just wanted to come say hi?" He said, it felt like bait.
"Yeah... well, we did kiss a little" I admitted.
"Uh huh, well those marks on your neck say otherwise" he broke, finally laughing, "Hey, I'm a modern man" he says putting his hands up, "I think you two look good together and he clearly makes you happy, why do you think I said you two could stay here tonight?" he chuckles to himself as he walks over to his wardrobe to start getting ready.
"Seconded!" Robin adds, "I think you two make a great couple".
"You better eat those pizzas!" Steve calls from the wardrobe, "I'm not having either of you flagging before midnight because you haven't lined your stomachs!" We both fell about laughing but dug in all the same.
As we continued to get ready there was something about Steve's demeanour that had changed. He seemed more apprehensive about the party than he had in the days prior, he had allowed his cocky bravado to slip just a little in front of me and Robin and I think we had both picked up on it.
"Hey Dingus!" Robin called in her raspy tones, throwing his Indiana Jones hat at him. "Earth to Steve! What's wrong? You were excited about the party like an hour ago?"
He continued preening his hair into a perfect quaff as he answered Robin, "I don't know what you mean Robin, I'm just trying to get my hair right...I'm con-cen-tra-ting" He stretched out every syllable of the word for effect.
"Oh stop worrying Harrington! Nancy won't be there" and with that we both saw a visible relaxation of his shoulders.
"How do you know?" He asked turning to look at us.
"Her and Jonathan are going to a double feature" I answer.
"Yeah" Robin agrees, "She told us at band practice" I nod in support.
"Well that's a relief" he said before surveying both of us, "Robin you are spot on, maybe add some fake blood to the scrubs. And Y/N you need..." He sprayed me with the Farrah Fawcett spray and placed my witches had atop my head, "Perfect" He beamed, before leading me to the full length mirror.
