You tell me I'm everything
and I make your soul sing
you tell me you love my talk
and the way I walk
you tell me I'm pretty
and that my jokes are witty
you tell me I'm smart
and found my way into your heart
I try to force myself to believe these things
but it reminds me of memories that carry stings
I was little when my own called me terrible
worthless and horrible
ugly and a fatty
stupid and trashy
boring and lame
I'll never win this life game
when it happens over and over and for years on top of years
soon you believe the words that bring you tears
it becomes who you are
and never takes you far
self pitying and hating
and I was waiting
for someone who could lift my soul
out of this hole
I needed someone who could take away the way I've felt
ease me of what I've dealt
you tell me I'm everything
and I make your soul sing
I want to believe you
but before I do
promise you won't give me pain
when I'm trying to gain
