Night spilled through the large windows of Matt's apartment, the glare of the billboard reflecting blue, purple, and pink shadows through the large room-testing the darkness. It's a Saturday night, and the city is breathing in and out efficiency. Men and women work long hours while others drink until their hearts content. You on the other hand, where working with someone you quite frankly despised.
You shouldn't be here.
Well, let me rephrase. You should be here, whether you wanted to be here or not was a completely different argument. Technically, you where exactly where you where supposed to be-working a late night for a case that needed to be solved.
Matt Murdock. Ah, where to start. You where natural enemies as Foggy liked to say. Let me just tell you, Private investigators and lawyers go together like fire and ice, oil and water, cheese and chalk, whatever the fuck is the opposite of the other-that's you and Matt. Honestly, even if you and Matt weren't on the opposite side of the legal spectrum-you wouldn't get along.
This man grated you, and you fucking despised him.
Everyone at 'Nelson and Murdock' was a delight to be with. Foggy? Love the guy to death, probably one of the nicest lawyers you had ever met in your life. Karen Page? Getting drinks with her was a ritual that you enjoyed more then life itself. Matt Murdock?
Your probably waiting for me to say something delightful about him? Ha, funny.
He is an arrogantly arranged dick. There I said it. And listen, your not saying he wasn't good at his job cause hell could he present a case like his life was on the line, but he did it in a way that made you hate him. The way he would give the jury that charming smile of his, would flaunt his good arguing skills like the feathers of a peacock, and worst of all-acted like you and him where anything but enemies in public, and worst of all-
Know what, I feel like you get the gist.
You took pleasure in knowing he felt the same way about you. Oh how he could go on about how much of a pain in the ass you where. You saw his grip tighten around his walking stick every time you spoke, smiled, or hell-even walked in a room. Sometimes, the prospect of annoying him made it that much more exciting to see him.
He hated the way you would flirt with people of higher power. Was it on purpose? Hell no, you would never use your abilities like that to get to people higher then you. You just had a flaunting personality when it came to anyone but Matt. Your smile could light up an entire room, the way you presented yourself could make the most confident person the most insecure, you where a joy to be with.
Sometimes, you would purposefully act nicer when he was around so then you could see his irritation. Dick move some may say, but you call it business.
You and him where always ready to battle with each other. Someones guilty? No they're innocent. That case was solved? Not good enough. Every. Fucking. Thing.
So usually, that was how you both operated. You where secretly teenagers at heart, wanting to get under the others skin as much as possible. You tried to not dwell on your dynamic that much, but still when the opportunity presented itself, you would piss him the hell off.
Christ you needed to get laid. Or go to the gym. Maybe both if we're being honest. Anything to get this tension off of your fucking mind.
As you riffled through your bag, you idly wondered if Matt had the same thought as you. If he was wondering why god would orchestrate such a cruel punishment like forcing a private investigator and a lawyer to work together. Hell, it even sounds like a joke when you say it out loud.
