At 4 o'clock Stacey could hear Billy's Camaro pulling up in front of her house. She checked herself out in the mirror one more time before grabbing her bag with her swimsuit and towel.
"Okay, you can do this." She mumbled to herself and took a deep breath before leaving her house.
"Hey, babe." He said as she opened the door.
"Hi," She replied with a smile.
"How much stuff did you bring?" He asked as he looked at the big shoulder bag she brought along.
"Oh just my swimwear and a towel. And some hairbrushes and hair products... and makeup..." Stacey chuckled.
"No need to all doll up again after swimming for me," Billy said as he started the car again. "You look great no matter what."
"Oh, shut up." She mumbled and felt herself blush a little at his compliment.
"You smoke?" He asked as he held out his pack of cigarettes for her.
"I do, thanks." She smiled and took one of the cigarettes and lit it. Billy did the same and hit the gas."How was work?" She asked as Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leopard was playing loudly from his radio.
"Alright." He shrugged as he took the cigarette from between his lips, holding it between his fingers as he held the steering wheel. "Some clients are a real pain in the ass, though. But their cars are nice and I get to work on them, so." He added with a chuckle.
"I see that," Stacey replied. "I don't know much about cars."
"They're delicate things, complex. You got to treat them like women." He said, taking another drag of his cigarette. He was driving very fast. Stacey was sure that this was past the allowed speed limit.
"Is that so?" She raised her eyebrows and laughed a little.
"Yeah, absolutely." He grinned back at her and shot her a quick wink."What pool are we going to?" Stacey asked as she looked out of the window, taking another drag of her cigarette.
"Well, I changed my mind. I think the Community Pool is better, since I also have free access to the saunas there." Billy replied.
"Saunas? I've never been in one before."
"Never? You're in for a treat then." He smiled. For Whom The Bell Tolls by Metallica started playing now. Eddie really liked that band. So did she, or at least some of their stuff. And Eddie knew. So he took every opportunity to play the songs she liked whenever they hung out.
"You got to listen to this. Best music ever made. A gift from the Gods themselves." He has said as he handed her his Walkman.
"I know, I know, you've already showed this to me a hundred times, Ed." She would reply annoyed but couldn't help but laugh at his enthusiasm.Damn it, she didn't want to think about him right now. Making her start to worry again. And taking her back to the rather strange encounter this morning. Was he really about to kiss her? No, no that was crazy. Why would he? He had never even suggested or tried anything like that before. Not in those 15 years they'd known each other. She had only once kissed his cheek when they were 8 years old as Eddie had stolen some candy from his uncles candy jar and gave it to her.
"Babe? Hey? You're okay?" Billy's voice came.
"What?" She said a little bewildered.
"I was talking to you but you seemed to be out of this world." He said with a frown.
"I'm sorry, I was just thinking of something." She shot a quick smile at him. "What were you saying?"
"It's not important, never mind." He shook his head and focused on the road again. He seemed a little offended. They didn't really speak until they reached the Community Pool.
"Doesn't look very crowded." Stacey said as she looked at the amount of cars parked at the parking lot.
"Nah, usually pretty quiet this time of year. Most people just come here for the gym facilities and saunas." Billy said as he parked the car. Stacey had forgotten the fact it was an outside pool and it was March.
