It's a quiet Saturday, filled with housework and catching up on homework. The lazy kind of Saturday, with a faint drizzle of rain outside and the thrumming of the air conditioner being the loudest noise.

Cady is working on her laptop, grading assignments at the kitchen table while the twins work on their history projects at the coffee table in the next room.

Cady can hear them talking quietly amongst themselves, but can't make out what they say. She's not fussed. Her daughters are teenagers, they're bound to have things they don't want her hearing.

Things get a little bit louder over time, more heated. Cady peeks up over her computer screen to see if she needs to step in. Before she can...

"Just shut up!" Layla yells, running out the door into the backyard.

"Hey!" Cady says, already too late to catch her. Janis enters from her studio at all the commotion.

"What was that all about?"

Leo shrugs. "I just told her it's her turn to take our laundry to the laundry room and she flipped out."

"Hm," Cady hums in concern. "We'll give her some time and go talk to her."

"... Does this mean I have to bring our laundry down?"

"No," Janis chuckles. "It is her turn. You have any homework left?"

"Math," Leo whines. "Mamaaaaaa."

"Go get it, I'll help," Cady giggles.

"Mom, can we work in your studio?" Leo pleads, blinking her big blue eyes at Janis.

"Of course," Janis chuckles. "But you have to listen to Mama and actually work."

"Okay!" Leo says eagerly, already running to grab it from her desk in her room.

"I'm glad we have kids who almost enjoy doing homework," Cady hums curiously. "Weirdos."

"They're our weirdos," Janis says. "Just like you."

"Watch it," Cady replies, wrapping her arms around Janis' neck and pressing up for a kiss. "I love you."

"I love you too," Janis whispers. "Where did Layla go?"

"Treehouse," Cady sighs. "Poor kid."

"She'll be okay," Janis comforts.

"I know, but it's still... I don't know. They have real problems now. It's hard to know how to help them sometimes," Cady murmurs, resting her head against Janis' shoulder. "It's not like her to lash out like that. I'm worried."

"I am too," Janis sighs. "But we'll figure it out. She always tells us what's on her mind eventually."

Cady nods slightly against her shoulder, just breathing in the comforting aroma of her wife while she waits for her other daughter to find what she needs.
