Janis looks down as Cady wriggles to press against her side, hugging her arm and smushing her cheek against her bicep to peer up at her. "Would you still love me if I was a worm?"

Janis chuckles with a fond roll of her eyes. "A worm, huh?" Cady nods. "Do I know the worm is you? Or are you just a worm I come into contact with on the sidewalk and have to decide to love in my infinite kindness?"

"Mm... are you nice to all worms?" Cady asks.

"I mean, I try to be," Janis replies with a giggle. She slouches down a little to rest her temple on top of Cady's head. "I don't step on 'em or anything. I'm not gonna like, keep one as a pet, but if it's in a high-traffic area I'll scoot it into the grass with a leaf or something."

"Then you know it's me, if you're nice as a general rule."

"Does this you-worm have the consciousness to love me back? Is it more you or more worm?"

"More worm. Just a worm that you know in your heart is me," Cady replies.

Janis chuckles. "Then yes, once I get over the shock and heartbreak of my beloved girlfriend being a worm, I would still love you. I would keep you in a little jar and feed you leaves."

"Really?" Cady asks happily. "What if I was something else?"

"Like what?"

"Mmm... a frog?" Cady asks. "Would you kiss me so I could be the beautiful princess I really am again?"

Janis laughs. "Probably, at some point. I dunno if I have the funds to get you a good enough tank, though. Those terrarium things are expensive."

Cady hums in agreement and nods. Janis grins a little and kisses her hair.

"Why are you suddenly so curious to know how existential and multiversal my deep, undying love for you is?"

Cady shrugs. "I dunno, it's just fun to think about."

"I'm just glad you're not the kind of girl to totally overthink my response to whether or not I would love you as a fucking... ladybug, or whatever," Janis chuckles.

Cady giggles and squishes a little closer. "Well, all this time I've secretly been a witch. I can change my form, but you have to prove you'd still love me no matter what for me to trust you. Even if I was a ladybug."

"Oh, yeah?" Janis hums with a snort. Cady nods. "Please, I totally would have figured that out. You would've cursed me by now."

"It came close."

"Did it now?" Janis teases. "Would be fun if you could do that."

"I hope it is," Cady sighs softly. "I'll be stuck that way until you figure it out."

"What, like a Beauty and the Beast kinda deal?" Janis asks. Cady nods. "Well, you can rest assured that I love you even if you are a bug or a frog or whatever."
