Ever since that day where they just stared into each others eyes for countless hours on a flowery field, they had been calling 24/7. Robin had also been a nervous reck from everything that happened. She was conflicted if Nancy liked her or not.
"Robin? Did you hang up on me?" Nancy's voice comes out of the telephone. Robin runs her hand through her hair.
"Yes, sorry. What were you saying?" There was some silence on the other end until Nancy says with a pitch in her voice,
"I loved that date the other night. It was perfect. Do you want to go on another one tonight? Maybe you can choose the place."
Robin was taken by surprise by Nancy's words. She was really sleep deprived, so she had forgotten they had a date for a split second."Oh uh yeah i'd love to, but I'm not sure if the place will be as cool as where you brought me. What if you just came over here and we can decide where to go together?"
"Sure."
___________
Robin plays with her hair seeing what would look best. She decides at the end that a ponytail would look best. She heads to the bathroom and puts some cherry color lipstick on.
"Perfect," Robin says to herself.
___________
Robin opens the door to see a beautiful dressed up girl. "Nancy.. You look really nice!" Robin mummers, staring directly at Nancy.
Their eyes meet for a moment and no words were said. "You do too," Nancy breaks the silence, parting her lips. It was, oddly, awkward between the two. Robin didn't want to ever take her eyes off of the beautiful girl.
"I thought we could go get uhh... Dinner? I mean it's late and you know, we both dressed up... Also I sort of thought of that last second," Robin suggests, giving a small laugh while sneaking glances at Nancy every few seconds.
Yeah, sure! I'll drive us somewhere," Nancy breaks into a smile. So does Robin. Nancy offers her hand to Robin. Robin hesitates, but accepts it.
As they walk out of her house, she panders what was going on between each other.. She couldn't tell if whatever was going on between the two was platonic or not.
On the drive there, there was actually some talking between the two. Usually it would be quiet, but Robin was on the edge of rambling. After 20 minutes, they arrive to the restaurant.
Nancy turns her head to Robin and let's go of Robin's hand as they walk towards the door. Robin knew due to homophobia she had to do that. They could get in big trouble if people saw them the wrong way. They enter the door in the front of the building.
"Hi! Could we get a table for two please? You know, we are having a girls night out!" Nancy forces a smile, but is secretly cringing at that phrase. Robin nods along with what Nancy was saying, even though she hated it.
"Sounds good," the lady says, looking at them up and down as if she was judging. She leads the two to a table by the corner of the place.
Robin takes a seat first and Nancy follows. The two hold hands underneath the table. Robin loved holding Nancy's hand, it was somehow... comforting. Her hand was so soft and a little smaller than her own.
"Nance?"
"Yes Robin?"
Robin squeezes Nancy's hands. "What are we?" Nancy makes a face. Robin looks over her shoulder to make sure no one was watching them then whispers, "Our friendship, what are we? I mean we are having dates a-""What would you ladies like to drink?" The waitress interrupts. They both let go of each others hands and Robin awkwardly coughs.
"Ah um just water my throat is a bit dry you know?" Robin fake smiles. The waitress nods slowly.
"And you?" Nancy opens her mouth but nothing comes out. "She would also like water!" Robin saves her. Nancy's eyes meet Robin's as the waitress walks away.
"That was a uh close call.." Robin mummers. Nancy nods and smiles.
"What? Why are you smiling?"
"Nothing. About your question, I'll answer that in the car." Nancy softly laughs. Robin's face heats up. She adored Nancy's laugh, it could stop her from being sad any day._________
After Nancy and Robin had finished their meals, they head out to the car while the sky was practically pitch black with some twinkling stars.
Nancy doesn't start the car for a few minutes and Robin doesn't say anything until it's been a minute.
"Nancy?" Nancy turns her head. "So do you want the answer to your question," Nancy says before Robin could get another word out. Robin shuts her mouth and nods. Here it was, the truth of what they even are. Does Nancy like her or not?
Nancy starts to laugh. Robin sits there, more confused than she ever has been.
"Why are you laughing?"
"Robin," Nancy takes Robin's hands. The moonlight shines through the windows gracefully.
"You're so oblivious.""What?"
"I know you like me," Nancy then says. Robin's heart drops. She couldn't tell if she was scared or happy."I like you too Robin. I have ever since the day we went to get ice cream. And, you make it very obvious that you like me. Why do you think I brought you on dates?"
Robin sits there with so many emotions, stuck staring into Nancy's beautiful eyes. Mostly the ones that are good. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. All she wanted to do was-
Nancy leans in and gently pecks Robin's lips. Robin feels a smile spread across her face when Nancy pulls away.
"I really was oblivious wasn't I?"
