humans don't have hearts
-
the past pt. 2
-

Without a doubt, y/n wanted to see gojo satoru again, but ... she knew that wouldn't have been possible. Mainly because of the change in her parents' personalities. She always (briefly) wondered what satoru had told them while she touched the grass outside. Pulling the small blades and tossing them into the air.

Though, she was quick to dismiss it.

Her parents were the bipolar type anyway. Besides, she would know soon enough.

"Uhm—what are you doing?"

Her gaze flicked up to a boy her age. He looked lonely just like her.

"Just sitting outside. My parents tossed me out here to have a private conversation."

It had been two weeks since gojo satoru's visit.

"Oh."

Though when the boy sat in front of her and started to pull at the grass too, she frowned. This was the first time she actually talked to someone her own age, and, of course, satoru's advice of "make friends" was a constant whirlwind in her head.

So maybe ... this one could be a friend?

"I'm y/n."

He seemed to smile ever so slightly then. Was he meek? Shy maybe? Or maybe ... just maybe he was just like her?

"I'm Junpei."

She didn't smile like she did with satoru. She just gave the ordinary fake emotion that she gave to everyone on a daily basis. He believed in that fake smile, and later in life ... she feel bad.

"Anyway, do you, by chance, watch any movies?"

He was a lot more quiet than she thought he would be, and a part of her wondered what made him come to talk to her.

It was weird.

Well, it was until she spotted a woman smiling at them. Nodding her head in victory which was when it finally dawned on y/n.

He only came to talk to her because his mother kept pestering him too.

It was a good intention, but y/n would have much preferred it if someone else didn't have to move you to action. Not to hesitate.

But whatever.

Some are just raised differently than others, and y/n hated that.

"Sorry, but my parents don't let me watch them."

"Wait. You don't even get to go to the movie theater?!"

"Not at all."

He was getting really heated about movies, and y/n couldn't guess why. Maybe it was a hobby for him? Who knows... human interaction was lost on her.

"Well, maybe we should hang out sometime? I have some really cool movies at home that you might like."

And then

Her eyes brightened. She could tell that that suggestion wasn't something his mother drilled into his head. He was just ... genuinely asking if she wanted to come over.

She still didn't smile though because—

"Y/n, what are you doing?"

Ah yes.

The overbearing parents.

"Just talking to—"

"And you boy, don't ever talk to y/n again. She is busy."

"She's busy ... by pulling out grass in her front yard?"

He was being sarcastic. Her parents hated that. She, in turn, wanted to laugh, but she managed to hold her tongue. Her lips pressed into a tight line.

Her parents could only fume. Which was when his own mother finally decided to come out. All she wanted was for the two to become friends. Mainly because on her many walks home she always noticed y/n, sitting alone outside as her parents argued inside.

And as the three adults lightly argued. Never once raising their voices, y/n took her chance to say one final thing to junpei. Mainly because she knew her parents would win the dispute.

"Hey before you have to go ..."

"Yeah?"

She smiled that same fake smile, "did you know that humans don't have hearts?"

And that was when y/n had unintentionally gave Junpei's new mindset. His ideology that humans really don't have hearts. Though, that ideology won't be set until later.
