A Lauryn Hill's song playing loudly in the background, Simi in her blue maxi dress and dreadlocks bounded together with a scarf, puffed out a thick cloud of smoke from her electric cigarette, watching as it evaporated into the morning air where she leaned on the cold railings of her balcony, mindlessly tapping her feet to the classic music, phone in her other hand, peering through the wedding invitation that she woke up to less than an hour ago.

WEDDING RECEPTION TO FOLLOW

**Strictly by invitation.**

Even though she had woken up feeling grumpy from a bad dream, this notification had started her day on a high note and she liked it; the mental image of her friend Tiara getting married, and herself performing at the wedding ceremony, for the first time and she couldn't wait to tick it off her list. And, in creating awareness for her upcoming debut album and tour, her camera crew would be recording and projecting every of her performances that day online, live across video platforms for her fans worldwide to stream.

Her eyes danced across her phone screen as she peered over it again, taking in all the information, line for line. As she swiped left to the next page of the e-invite, her phone rang.

"Happy new month early bird." Her caller greeted with a breathy voice from the other side.

"Hey, same to you Ada. Good morning." Simi responded with a cheery mood in her voice, smiling, at her manager slash friend's refreshing voice.

"It's a beautiful morning, it's Sunday and you're up early. I hope you got that invite too."

"Yeah I was looking at it again when you called. July twenty third, that's like three weeks away from now."

"More like three weeks and four days. Tiara said most people don't know about your performance yet, just us for now because it's going to be a surprise!Simi, it's going to be her wedding, but it's going to be your stage as well. We have to kill it! She's really counting on us to and from our last conversation, her mother is pulling a massive crowd damn! A lot of people will be there."

Except Adam, Simi thought. The wind whipped through the trees in her yard and gooseflesh prickled up her bare arms where she stood in the balcony, listening to her manager on the phone, before she headed back into the house, where it was so much warmer.

"I literally can't wait too Ada. Anyway, enough about me, what are you up to?"

"Just got back from morning workout, I'm so out of breath right now and hungry and I need to shower. The dance crew are running late but Deb called last night and said they will be in Abuja before evening. I have to go and make sure their lodge is all set up. How's your Sunday like?"

"Nothing much over here. For now I'm about to continue season four of Orange is the New Black. It's breezy outside though, feels like it might rain today. I pray it does. But if it doesn't, catch me at Shaffy's gym in the evening for a drink and company. She comes around on Sundays."

"I wish I could babe, but you know your rehearsals resume this week and I'm still trying to sort some things before we travel to Ibadan. So why don't you just stay in, order in some food and rest today? you know... gather some strength for the exercises this week."

"That's why I'm going to the gym Ada, it's not too early to get in the mood you know."

"Not because a hot athletic guy in sexy shorts has caught your eyes? Cos I can totally understand that."
