11:23pm,
D'Hotel Royale.Adam's penthouse was a symbol of sophistication, adorned with contemporary furnishings and sparkling chandeliers that bathed the room in a warm glow. The panoramic view of the city lights outside painted a surreal backdrop through the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a moody ambiance. Expensive artworks adorned the walls, but their beauty seemed eclipsed by the heaviness in the atmosphere. Shadows played on the furniture, adding a layer of complexity to the tension that hung in the air. The plush sofa and sleek coffee table created a contrast, and it was on this furniture that Adam sat, facing Simi.
In the hushed ambiance, she took a deep breath, her hands trembling as she clutched a throw pillow seeking comfort. The weight of her confession was heavy on her chest, knowing it was about to shatter everything she held dearly. Her breath hitched as she prepared to lay bare the truth that had been concealed for so long. A surge of self-reproach welled up within her – a haunting reminder of the choices that led to this moment. If only she has listened to her instincts to not attend Tiara's wedding. If only she had stayed back in Abuja, if she had resisted the magnetic pull toward Adam and the Cokers, perhaps this unraveling wouldn't be tearing at the seams of their world.
"Simi, for God's sake, say something. The last fifteen seconds have been suffocating. What do you mean you've not been honest about Sam's death?" Adam's eyes bore into hers, a fusion of curiosity and anxiety etched on his face. He leaned forward, his impatience evident. "Tell me, Simi. What really happened to my brother?"
The city below seemed to hold its breath as Simi took a deep one of her own.
"I'm...I'm the real reason he died, Adam. I should have told you this earlier. I'm so sorry."
Her words echoed in the spacious room, creating a tension that hung in the air like a heavy fog. Adam, seated across from her, felt a sudden rush of emotions.
"You... You're telling me you're the reason Sam died? What do you mean? Explain yourself, please," he demanded, his anticipation replaced by confusion, then simmering anger.
Simi swallowed, the room feeling stiflingly tense. Her voice quivered with the weight of the truth she was about to share."Jagga is not just a murderer, Adam. He's a psychopath, twisted and sick in the head. I wish I had known that before. And the truth is, he didn't kill Stone because of drugs. Stone never sold drugs for him. I did. It was much darker than that,"
"Back then, Jagga got obsessed with me, like in a scary way and...and when I started working for him, we got closer. At first it was just strictly business, but he started demanding for more. I didn't know he was crazy, I swear,"
"He thought Stone and I were together, even though I told him several times that we were only friends. He just couldn't handle the thought of Stone being close to me and seeing us together every time. He felt he was the reason I was always putting him off and rejecting him, so he started seeing him as a threat, he started stalking us. It all escalated when he and his guys confronted Stone at his department,"
The room seemed to constrict around them as Simi recounted the events that led to tragedy. "He threatened Stone, talking about taking him out of the picture but I didn't take it seriously. I thought it was just a bluff. I mean—I never imagined it would turn into what happened, that they were capable of murder," her gaze focused on a distant point, as if reliving the haunting memories.
"What... What are you saying, Simi?" Adam's voice trembled as he processed her words. His heart raced, trying to make sense of the incomprehensible. "That my twin brother, Sam was drugged, assaulted and found dead in his room, because some crazy guy was...obsessed...with...you?"
