6:03pm,
D'Hotêl Royale,
Ibadan.Despite the series of events that had transpired since they took off and flew across worlds to land in the South Western part of Nigeria, the night was still young and alive, promising a lot.
Fully furnished in every sense of the word—their residential suite on the fifth floor of the grand hotel was quite impressive. It had everything they needed, from two bedrooms to a separate living room, a well-stocked wet bar, a fully equipped kitchen, an in-suite washer and dryer, and even a terrace. It was the perfect hideout during the wedding festivities, Adam had said out loud when he and Yara first settled in an hour ago.
In her room, it was quiet and chilly. The lights and TV were off, her clothes and backpack were scattered on the sofa and her bags were haphazardly opened, disorganized on the tiled floor. Empty plates and bowls, along with bottles of water and beer cans, were strewn on and under the glass table. Despite the mess around her, Yara was fast asleep on her cozy bed.
Startled awake, her phone clutched in one hand. She groggily checked the time. With a jolt of urgency, she jumped out of bed, accidentally kicking something in the dark as she stumbled towards the bathroom and hurriedly got dressed for dinner. Adam's voice echoed from the living room, and she rushed to join him, her heart pounding with anticipation at everything the new city had planned for her.
As she was getting ready to leave, she rummaged through her backpack and found her lipgloss. With a quick swipe, she applied it to her pink lips, then casually tossed it onto the sofa. She slipped her shoes on and pulled the door open.
"That's gotta be the shortest nap in the history of naps," Adam teased, checking his wristwatch as she joined him in the living room. He had changed into a smart short-sleeved shirt and black jeans, looking put-together and relaxed.
Yara rolled her eyes and walked towards him, passing by a long antique mirror. "My ass needed that. It's been a freaking day," she offered a small smile. "I hope you got some rest too. Meeting your family must have been exhausting."
Adam sighed and nodded. "You have no idea. It was a lot. But at least we're hanging out with my childhood buddies now. That should ease the tension."
"Is Bode going to be there?"
"Of course. Hmm...do I hear some crush there?" Adam teased again.
"What? No. He's just really nice and we're kicking it off. Anyway, I can't wait to meet your friends."
He smirked. "Well, the last time I saw them was over ten years ago. I can't promise you anything."
Adam's eyes flickered up and down Yara's body, finally taking in her new overall look.
"This is a stunning gown you've got on. Now that I think of it Yara, I've—I've never...actually seen you in a gown."
She rolled her eyes again and scoffed, throwing her hands up. "You have my mom to thank for this. Those cargo pants are the only pants I brought on this trip, talmbout it is a wedding occasion and all."
His smile returned. "We can buy you comfier clothes, but you look really stunning in that dress. You'll turn heads tonight, trust me. They already think I brought a Brazilian goddess." He chuckled.
"What? That's just silly. I don't exude 'goddess' vibes at all." She burst into a laugh, but was surprised to see that Adam was serious. "Wow, you're serious. Well, I'm flattered. We can go shopping after the wedding, but for now, I'm craving the continental dish Bode promised. Let's go."
She hooked her arm into his eagerly and they set to leave the suite.
"Right. One second."
Adam grabbed his phone from his room and they immediately joined his friends in the dining lounge, leading Yara with a grin on his face as they chatted and giggled, making their way out of the elevator.
