Isaac POV*
"Alright, that another one down," I wiped my hand on my hands as I stepped down the ladder. "Then you're halfway done," Ava smiled as she crossed off another chore. You know, if you could help me, things would go a lot faster if you did." I complained as I grabbed the list from her to see what was next. "Yeah, I could. But there, not my chores..." she smiled. I let out a sigh and gave her the list back.
I gave her a tired look as I made my way to the back. "Where are you going?" She asked. "Getting a broom," I said back. I heard her laugh as she probably looked at the next chore, I sighed and headed to the back to get it.
I stopped for a second as I walked past the room to my dad's study, looking In I saw him sitting in his chair behind his desk, facing the window. I wondered what he was doing. But I didn't want to go in and ask.
I felt slightly guilty for not being home. I'm having a great time at the church, in more ways than one, but that did mean my dad had been alone. After all, this is over ill be sure to stay home more.
I quickly went and grabbed the broom, leaving just as fast as I came and got back to the shop. Where Ava was still on her spot o the counter. I got to the corner and started my chore of sweeping the store.
"So about your powers..." Ava started. I sighed as I kept sweeping. "I would call them powers..." I said back. "From what you told me they seemed pretty cool." She smiled. "I mean, didn't you say you could hear people's heartbeats through walls." She said excitedly. I just looked up at her. "That sounds like power to me."
"It didn't feel like a power," I said back, still going around the store with the broom. "It may sound cool but it was horrible." I explained, "and it wasn't just hearing the heartbeats, it was everything.." I looked up at her.
"What do you mean," she asked carefully, I stood up straight. "Just- everything, the sound, the smell. And that voice in my head-.." I stopped myself, shook it off, and went back to cleaning. "What voice.." ava pushed, but I tried to ignore her.
I could still hear it. Ever since that first drop of blood my whole body keeps telling me it wants more. I had to use every bit of willpower I had to not jump someone, I don't know what was happening to me.
"Isaac?!" Ava yelled, I looked up surprised, I must've zoned out, "yeah. Sorry, don't worry about it." I brushed it off. I put the broom down against the shelves.
"I am worried about it," she said, getting off the counter. "Well, it's fine, I have it under control," I said, more to myself than to her. She stood in front of me, bringing her hand up to my arm, "what's under control?" She asked, sounding worried. "I-"
"So how is that list going?" Suddenly my dad walked in. Surprised, Ava let go of my arm and stepped back. "It's uh," I started, "halfway done!" Ava smiled as she walked up to him and showed him the list.
My dad looked over confused before studying the list. "Well alright," he said as he put it back down. I hesitantly grabbed the broom and continued sweeping.
"I still can't believe you've kept a list of everything I missed," I said to him as I made my way behind the counter. "Someone had to do them." He laughed, "there wouldn't be a list if you had been home to do them," he added. I let out a laugh as I finished up. "Right," I said, not wanting to get into that any further.
"So are you going out again tonight... or will you stay home once this month." He said. I stopped and looked over, "I- uh, ill stay here tonight." I gave in. I promised Lukas id to be back but, I just can't say no like that.
"Good," he smiled. He looked really happy, which made me feel a little better about not keeping my promise. He got behind the counter and opened his book, guess he'll be staying here for the rest of the evening.
I looked over at Ava, who looked at me like she wanted to say something. I looked confused. She widened her eyes and nodded her head to my dad. I shrugged, not sure what she meant, she tried again, but all I could do was stare blankly, having no idea what she wanted me to do.
She rolled her eyes as if to tell me she'd do it herself, and turned to my dad. "So, Mr bowman. I've always wondered." She started. He looked over and listened to her. "Do vampires have any, I don't know, powers?" She asked. Real subtle.
He looked at her surprised. "Why do you ask.." he asked, she shrugged. "It's just been on my mind, I mean, Isaac is one but he won't tell me, so I don't have anyone else to ask..." she tried, it wasn't a good excuse, but it worked pretty well, even though my dad didn't know I told her about that.
He turned to me shocked. "You told her?" He said. I nodded. "Of course, she's my best friend." I defended, "was I not supposed to?" I asked. He shook his head. "No, it's fine." He said.
"So then.." Ava joined in, "does he have secret powers he won't tell me about." She smirked, and my dad turned to her again. "Uhm well, it's complicated." He started, "but not, besides the healing I don't-" he said, he stopped himself and got up, "I should start dinner." Be said as he headed to the back, I wanted to yell after him but he wasn't going to say anything else. Not with Ava still here.
"Well, that went well." She laughed as if he had disappeared completely. I stayed quiet as I went over to her and grabbed the paper. "No, it went perfectly actually," I said as I moved on to my next chore. "What no It didn't, he told me nothing." She said back.
"But hell tell me..." I smiled, grabbing the ladder and moving it to the other shelves. "Thanks," I said to her. "You're welcome?" She laughed, "I'm not sure what I did though?" She added. I let out a laugh and started rearranging the shelves.
