Isaac POV*

"What are you doing here!? How did you!" Dad asked as he angrily walked up to Marc. "It's a long story- I-" Marc stuttered as he tried to find words. He let out a long sigh.

"I knew I recognized this place." He said as he turned to my dad. I took a step back, scared of what my dad was gonna say next. He looked over at marc, almost as if he had forgotten me, suddenly he ran up to him and pulled him into a hug.

I watched confused as marc hugged him back, a bright smile on his face. "I thought you left-" my dad said to him. "I- well I thought about it," marc joked as they pulled apart. "How did you- when." My dad said confused. "When j heard you had escaped, I didn't believe it- I just" he continued.

"Well, me neither, but I had help." He looked at me. "This guy would shut up until I went with him," I looked away quickly. Now I'm gonna get it, I'm dead, so dead.

Dad looked over at me, confused. "You-" he started. Marc looked between us. "You know him?" He asked. Dad let out a laugh, "I should've known it was you." He said to me. I couldn't quite read his face, it seemed like he was angry but I wasn't sure,

Marc stood there confused as he waited for an answer, "Isaac is my son." My dad finished, "your-" marc looked at me shocked. "You have a son-" he said to himself.

His mood suddenly dropped. His expression turned sad. "I just can't believe I didn't make the connection before," dad continued as he looked at me. It was still awkward between us, I ran away so suddenly, and haven't seen him since.

"Guess the truth finally came to the surface." He added. I stood there silently, not sure what to say as they both stared at me.

Dad turned back to Marc. "What are you doing here anyway- what if they see you," he asked. "You're not gonna- get the hunters?" Marc asked surprised. "Why would I do that-" my dad said back. "Even though I disagree with how you did it, I'm happy you're here." He said. Marc looked away sadly. "I- I shouldn't be." He sighed. "I should go-" he turned around a d tried to walk away, but my dad stopped him. "Wait- don't." Dad stopped him.

"We need to talk." He said as he forced Marc to look at him. I could see he wanted to leave, but something was stopping him. He let out a sigh and agreed. "Let's just get out of the front first," he said as we followed him to the back.

We got to the living area. I took a seat on the couch. Dad sat across me, looking at me awkwardly. Marc had left to go to the bathroom, leaving us alone. "Listen-" he started. I looked away, I still felt angry, but I realized I might've overreacted a bit. "No, I'm sorry, I-"

"It is my fault, I shouldn't have gotten so angry-" he interrupted. "If I had just told you the truth from the start you wouldn't have had anything to get angry about," I said back.

He got silent and rested his head on his hand. "But I get why you hid this-" he said quietly. I looked over a little confused. "You're not, angry?" I asked carefully. "Oh, no I am." He said back. "What you did was very dangerous and not to mention illegal- they will throw you in jail right next to Marc if they find out." He scolded. J looked down ashamed.

"I know, I just- I had to help him. What they did was unfair, he never hurt anyone." I explained. "They would've killed him without a reason." My dad let out a sigh. "Just like your mother-" he said to himself.

He got quiet again. "I'm sorry I didn't just tell you the truth, I wasn't sure how you would react-" I said honestly. "And you were afraid I'd turn you in." He added. I nodded. "That too,"  he let out a laugh as he leaned back into the couch. "At least this explains your weird behavior lately, and where you ran off to." He said as he looked down at me. "Yeah well-"

"Almost everything." He smiled, and I felt uncomfortable again, realizing he meant what he told me last time. About the marks around my neck, which I'm sure were even more obvious now... "Well, about that-" I started.

Just then Marc reentered the room. He looked around awkwardly. "I'm sorry did I ruin a moment," he said as he walked back to the couch, taking a seat next to my dad. "Kind of," he started. "But we can continue later." He looked over at me.

"First we need to talk about you-" he turned to marc. Marc looked away, almost embarrassed. "There nothing to talk about." He said. "Sure there is," my dad sat up. "Like, where have you been all this time? And why did you decide to come back?" He said as he leaned closer to Marc.

"It's not that exciting of a story," marc said back. "Still, tell me." Dad insisted. "I never really left, I stayed close by just- another town," he started. "And a long time alone in the woods...."  He said sadly. "But then I guess I wasn't careful enough one day, and I got caught."

He looked away as he finished his story. "I'm so sorry. But-" dad started. "Why didn't you just come back here, I could've helped you." I could!ve helped you- you didn't have to hide all that time." He said, trying to look Marc in the eyes. I felt a little awkward just sitting there like I was intruding on something personal.

"I didn't want to burden you any more than I already did," Marc said looking over at him. "What are you talking about, you did nothing at all," my dad defended, marc shook his head. "I did-"

I sat there, just looking at them I wanted to ask what was going on but something in me was telling me not to interfere, maybe it was Marc's expression as he kept looking at the floor, thinking about something I didn't even know about, yet.
