What Makes A Home
What makes a home so much more than a house?
Why does the word house lack the warmth that home holds?
A house is nothing more than a building
Filled with empty and cold halls
However, a home is found on the walls that are filled with pictures of all the things you love
It's the unfilled holes in the wall and the painted walls chipping from age
A home is found in the scratches your cat leaves on the front door when they want out
It's the muddy paw prints on the tiles
And the drops of paint, dried and left on the hardwood flooring
Not noticed in time to be able to be removed
A home is the bed left unmade and the shoes left by the door
It's the plants by the window, reaching towards the light
And the dirty dishes left in the sink
A home is lined with dog and cat beds thrown in every room
It's the wall you still haven't finished painting
And that one counter that gets cluttered no matter what
A home is found on the couch cushions
Warn from use as you sink further into them than you should
It's the piano, slightly out of place in the mess
But loved and played every day
A house is just a building
But a home is what you create
