We walked in silence for a while before she finally spoke.

"You gonna date her?"

My face contorted into a confused frown. "Why?"

"Just wondering. She kissed you."

"On the cheek! No. I don't even know her yet."

"You said you've been talking online."

I looked over and saw her frowning and staring at the ground in front of her.

"Just a little bit. It was mostly her flirting."

"Exactly. I think that if you met up again, she'd kiss you for real and want to date."

"Okay.. I'd have to get to know her well enough first. Why do you care, though?"

Silence.

"Sorry." I didn't really know what I did wrong.

"I don't care about who you date," she finally responded, ignoring what I said.

"Okay."

"It just seems like she went straight from flirting with you to flirting with that other guy. She'd cheat on you."

What!?

"I never said I was gonna date her."

"Good. You shouldn't."

"What if I do want to, though?"

"Then don't."

I looked over at her in shock. "I thought you said you didn't care who I dated."

"I—"

"I'm gonna take a shortcut. Bye." Instead of waiting for her response, I took a side road that I knew would be a longer way.

For some reason, we were both on edge. I had no idea why, but I knew it was both of our faults. I didn't want to get into an argument just because we were both in bad moods.

I didn't really think about anything on the way back. Well, it was either I had a blank mind or had a bustling mind and there was too much stuff going on in my brain to focus on one. I couldn't tell as I flipped down onto my bed.

Sleep came quickly. I was grateful.
