Eyeing the dresses I would love to wear, I pulled out a cropped white T-shirt and ripped jeans. I didn't want to have any more confrontations with my dad about what I wore.

I went out and sat on my front porch when the time neared 7.

I tried not to but failed. I looked at Asaiah's window. She wasn't in there and the light was off. I had seen Tyler pick her up an hour earlier, but still hoped to see her.

She had ignored me since our argument on Monday. There were obvious glances through windows or at school, but she made sure they didn't last or come to any conversation.

A silver minivan pulled up and the passenger window rolled down.

"Hey! Sorry about the car. I guess we have to travel in style today," Lilly sarcastically said.

I hopped in with a wide smile. "It's hot."

She blushed as she drove down the road.

"What are we doing today?" I asked a minute in.

"You'll see." She smiled over at me. "Anyways, how have you been the past week?"

"I've been better, honestly."

"Oh? What's up?"

I shrugged it off. "Nothing big. Me and Asaiah haven't really been talking lately, though."

"What? Why?"

"It's not a big deal, really. We just had an argument on Monday."

"Okay. Obviously you don't have to tell me, but if it's okay to ask, what was it about?"

I sighed. "She just kind of replaced me with her boyfriend. I used to take her to school in my car and hang out after school, but she does that every day with him now."

"Oh, I'm sorry. That really sucks."

We sat in silence for a few minutes.

"Maybe we can arrange a double date in a while and I could talk to her. Nothing too pushy, of course. I could just ask how you two are doing."

"Yeah. I don't know. We'll see. I don't want to talk about it all night, though. I want to hang out with you and be happy."

She smiled and put a hand on my knee. "I wouldn't have let you." She laughed teasingly.

I relaxed in my seat for the rest of the drive with a flustered smile.
