Countless hours had passed that night sorting through the endless records. Each and everyone having different and unique beats. We ended up compiling a pile of two-hundred and sixty-four tracks to present to the dj. A couple concerns of whether or not the dj would play the music came about, but the tedious amount of time we took selecting the perfect party anthems reassured me that the club would be hyped no matter what. I also mentioned that bribing can easily come into play if needed, both of them commanding that I only do so if it is in a safe manner, to which I agreed.
At some point that night we ended up going to sleep, only being able to sleep for a couple hours til the morning light made its way into the rooms of the house. I made as little movement as possible to not awaken Ruby, reaching to grab my phone off the coffee table. Coincidentally I had gotten an offer to go work at a party.
Me: Y'all just need supplies?
I responded, about to put my phone back down but receiving a quick and surprising reply. I swiftly got up, making my way to the bathroom to brush my teeth.
(504): Supplies and people if possible.
Me: Definitely possible, is there gonna be a dj?
(504): Yes, DJ BAM
Me: Isn't he old?
(504): Lmao, maybe a little
Me: Must be cheap
(504): Sadly not
Me: hmm.. can i make you an offer?
(504): Go for it
Me: I bring the people, I bring the supplies, I bring the music.. maybe even a live performance
(504): Who is it? Someone popular?
Me: Up and coming.. and if it flops then i'll change the music and you don't have to pay me for that portion. I'll discount ya tho.
(504): Let me get back with ya?
Me: Take your time. but i need to know so I can have everything or just supplies.
I made my way back to the couch we slept on last night, hearing Ruby let out a low groan. He adjusted his position, though still looking uncomfortable. I hovered over him for a second, putting my hand out to touch him, hesitating for a second.
"Ruby," I whispered, but there was no response.
I sat next to him, placing my hand on his side, slowly shaking it, whispering his name again. He let out another low growl, his eyes batting then slowly opening
"Go lay in your bed," I whispered.
"I'm good," he refused.
"You know you're not gonna be able to go back to sleep," I soothingly said.
"I said i'm good shorty," He said, throwing his hands on his face, rubbing his eyes.
I got comfortable next to him, laying my head on his shoulder.
"Did you like playing at those concerts?" I asked.
He peeked his eyes at me looking somewhat disoriented, "I did."
"Would you be willing to do it again?"
"Drums?"
"No, preform.. for money," I inquired. His eyes lit up.
"What are you talking about?" He began to interrogate. I lifted my head off of him and grabbed my phone out my pocket to see another message pop up.
(504): You got a deal.
I handed my phone to Ruby for him to examine the conversation. He sat himself straight up, hunching over while scrolling through the chat.
"Scott!" Bursted out his mouth, along with Scrim being startled awake.
"What bruh? fuck," He huffed.
"Read this shit," Ruby urged, as he stood up quickly making his way to the recliner.
Scrim grabbed the phone, trying to focus his vision. He evaluated the messages like Ruby did, then lowering his hand letting my phone rest on his lap for a minute. He looked up at Ruby, and then they both automatically fixed their view onto me.
"Fuckin miracle worker," Scrim praised, lifting the phone back up and began to type something. Ruby made his way to the kitchen as Scrim fiddled with the phone for a minute, then stretched his arm to me to hand it back.
Me: Send the addy n time. 20 of profits go to the performers n me.
A little high.. I thought, reading the somewhat risky message Scrim decided to send without my permission. Anxiety rose that one message could ruin the whole plan.
"Let me kno what they say," Scrim said, looking up to see him gutting the leftover cigar from the two pack.
(504): 15
My heart did a little dance, Scrim must've been able to notice the joy in my face when seeing the response, "what'd they say."
"fifteen," I declared, meeting his vivacious blue eyes.
"Well what are you waiting for?" He echoed, "Tell them fuck yeah!"
I let out a squeal, responding to the message simply saying 'perfect.'
They responded with the location and time. I turned to see Ruby being entertained in the kitchen. He must've felt the gaze of Scrim and I on him as he looked up, "what?" he coaxed, "Bouta whip up some tasty ass food to hold us up for this long ass night," He cackled.
I went on my phone, trying to pass up time for a little while. Thick smoke filled the room, looking up to see Scrim with a blunt and thankfully not Ruby burning our feast. Scrim passed the blunt to me, taking a small drag and walking over to the counter of the kitchen that separates it from the living room, handing Ruby the blunt. He took a couple hits, passing it back to me to do the same thing, then once more handing it to Scrim again.
"I guess i'll go freshen up, head back to my house and get all my shit i'll need for tonight, then come back here," I stated.
"Can't leave without eating my meal," Ruby protested, "but sounds good to me,"
I picked myself off the couch and made my way to Ruby's room where my bag of clothes was. I grabbed the whole bag to carry to the bathroom instead of a handful of clothes and products. I ran the shower, the steam fogging up the room, I felt the high kick in.
The water trickled on my skin, frothy soap covering me head to toe. One of my most enjoyable showers i've ever taken. It felt like hours in there that actually added up to twenty minutes, getting out and putting on a new pair of clothes. Skinny jeans with a somewhat tight, somewhat see through, white shirt. I brushed my hair out and scrunched it a bit, threw on some deodorant and perfume, and exited the bathroom, returning my bag to Ruby's room.
"Dinners readyyy," Ruby chirped from the kitchen as I made my way out of his room to go back down the hall. Some movement caught the corner of my eye, turning my head to meet the shadow that stood in the other room at the end of the hall. The door was somewhat closed, only being able to see the room partially. A shirt flew to the corner, the silhouette of a man making his way to the dresser caught my gaze, then I saw the man himself.
I didn't want to gawk, but unlatching my eyes from the slight was almost impossible. He had to have felt my stare burn his skin, but disregarded it, opening the drawer to find a new shirt. There were more tattoos than imagined that were imprinted on this perfect sculpture of a man. A smirk crawled up his face, removing a pair of shorts out the drawer, untying the joggers he was wearing, he began to slowly slip them down, revealing a hint of a V-line. I quickly turned and made my way down the hall.
"You must've taken a hot ass shower," Ruby implied from the burning of my face.
"Yeah," I grumbled, taking a piece of bacon from the tray they were aligned on, "well i'm gonna head out and get my shit together so i can be back early nough to chill," I rambled, hoping to escape before Scrim would insinuate he knew I was watching by just the look in his eyes.
"Ayo I gotta stop at the sto to get some gars, y'a think i can catch a ride witcha?" Scrim pondered as he sat himself on the sofa, tying up his shoes, as if saying he was going to join whether or not I liked it.
"She's got shit to get and she don't wanna be out long, why you don't go yaself?" Ruby announced.
Scrim stood up, adjusting his foot in the shoe, then reached into his pocket, pulling out a pair of familiar keys. He grinned, "save fuel, n you kno where our lil friend stays, i wanna see too."
"well he actually does-," I began to ramble but Scrim cut me off with, "cmon shawty, you don't wanna be out long, hop to it bunny," walking out the door.
I turned and looked at Ruby, his face flushed, "we're gonna hurry, keep that food somewhat warm cause i'm gonna grub when we get back," I said, trying to reassure him. My stomach hurt from the guilt i knew i'd have leaving with Scrim, but he had my keys, and i needed to get it over with.
"You're good, be safe, let me kno if you need somethin," He answered with a soft, but fake smile.
I hesitated to walk to the door, finding my feet shuffle to Ruby side, wrapping my arms around his neck to give him a heartfelt hug. He accepted it giving me a little squeeze, my feet then met the floor, getting off my tippy toes and making my way towards the front door. I turned around to give him one more reassuring smile, to which i received one back, that made me feel a little bit better.
I walked to my car seeing Scrim sitting in the drivers seat, "passenger princess," he taunted.
"In my own car," i scoffed.
"Don't act so depressed to be ina whip with me, you kno we gonna have fun," He said so assuringly.
I put my seatbelt on, kicking off my shoes and placing my feet on the dashboard, "whatever you have to tell yourself, just get on with it," I huffed
"don't rush me," Scott said deviantly, taking the car out of park and shifting it into drive, "I like to take my time," he finished, swerving off into the road.
