As Kara was setting the table, the doorbell rang.
She heard Lena's heartbeat, which was getting faster and faster. Kara hurried to open the door, but she was not prepared for the beauty that was behind it. Lena was wearing a beautiful green dress that made her eyes sparkle. Her raven black hair was wavy and covered her shoulders. Lena's radiance left Kara speechless.
"Hey babe," Lena whispered.
"Wapow."
Lena looked at her questioningly. "Excuse me? Wapow?"
Kara gulped before finding her voice again and taking Lena by the waist. "Yes, Wapow. You look stunning. You are my Wapow Lena."
They looked deep into each other's eyes and Lena tried to understand what Wapow meant now. But before she could ask the question, Kara kissed her gently on the hand and pulled her into the kitchen. She pulled out a chair and pointed to it. "Wow, real gentlewoman today," Lena laughed and sat down. Kara just grinned and lifted Lena with the chair slightly to bring it closer to the table. Then she took the surprise balls and the rest of the food and put everything on the table. She sat down in front of her date and proudly pointed at the surprise balls. "So you didn't think about me this time and weren't distracted?" asked Lena grinning with a raised eyebrow.
"Oh yes, every single second, but I promised you that I would prepare it for you. That's why you didn't distract me this time but helped me concentrate."
Lena smiled with satisfaction and took a ball. When she noticed Kara watching her intently, she laughed and bit into it. She was pleasantly surprised by the filling. "It tastes great darling," she reassured the blonde-haired girl. Kara took her fork with relief and then started to eat as well.
They spent a nice time at the table, talking about everything and Lena finally dared to ask her most eager questions.
"Kara...?"
Kara noticed how serious Lena suddenly became and she decided to wait until Lena asked the rest.
"Is it... was it... are you... ehm." Lena fell silent again.
Kara took her hand and tenderly stroked it with her thumb. "Hey... what's wrong?"
"I'm afraid to disappoint or hurt you with this question," Lena confessed.
Kara gave her another tender kiss on her knuckles. "Please ask. I can see that this question is important to you, that's why it's important to me."
Lena took all her courage and talked like a river, so as not to have time to back down. , "I know you and you are the person who is closest to me and knows me best. But sometimes I feel like I don't know you. Not the whole you. I know Kara Danvers and I know Supergirl. I also know Kara Zor-El, but I don't know much about you. I know almost nothing of Krypton, your home planet. I don't know what your life was like back then, what your traditions were, what made you happy. I feel that I don't know everything about you and I would love to know more about you. From your alien part. For example, I know that Krypton has a red sun and you believe in Rao and that those from Daxamite were your rivals, but that's all I know and..."
"Lee... you know me. Me, as I am now. This is me, Kara Zor-El. With you, I can be me and you can ask me anything about Krypton."
Lena's eyes sparkled and Kara knew she had said the right thing. It still hurt her to talk about Krypton, but it wasn't as strong as it was then and it also made her happy to talk about her childhood.
"What was it like? You didn't have superpowers, so you were a normal little girl. You had a normal childhood. How was mini Kara?". Lena waited expectantly for Kara's answer. The Kryptonian had to smile at the sight. Lena looked so happy.
"Mini Kara was a little nerd."
"Youuu? No way," Lena laughed, this was nothing new for Lena, but it was nice that Kara admitted it for once.
"Heyyy, being a nerd is not a bad thing!", the blonde defended herself.
"I know darling, I was one too."
"Yes, you are the most intelligent and wonderful in the whole world."
"sweet talker," Lena grinned sheepishly.
"And the prettiest," Kara added dreamily.
Lena gave her an amorous look. "You are the prettiest," she whispered.
Both were silent, just enjoying each other's presence. They exchanged glances that could not be put into words until Lena snapped out of her trance.
"Wait a minute, are you going off-topic to avoid talking about your childhood?"
"Noooo, I would never do that," Kara grinned.
Lena raised her eyebrow again.
"Okay okay, so as a little girl I was very strong in math. At 4, we could already do a lot of math, because we had different ways of calculating numbers than here on Earth. That's why later I was the best in math, it was always very easy here. But what fascinated me the most was science and the history of Krypton. Every day after school I went home and learned all about my ancestors and the stories of Krypton. I even got a prize for it. My mother was very proud of me. There are not many people who have received this award," Kara said proudly.
"Wow, I didn't know you were a little genius in mathematics. And you little nerd, I am proud of you. Do you have this prize with you?"
"No, unfortunately not, but it is in Argo, I saw it there at the time."
"Okay and science?"
"Yes, my father was a scientist and whenever he was working on something, I was with him and sometimes helped. Our technology is more advanced than here and my father's lab is still there. If you want, I can take you to Argo sometime when I go back to visit my mother."
Lena's eyes sparkled, "You would take me? To Argo? Where your mother is? A new planet. An adventurous journey through space. Just the two of us?"
"Yes, of course. You are my favorite person. There is no one else I would rather go on this journey with than you."
Lena froze. Favorite person?! She was Kara's favorite person? While Lena couldn't handle all the feelings and new information inside and tried to understand what was going on, Kara couldn't believe what she was saying. She wanted to tell Lena so much about how she felt about her that she was afraid to cross the line with it all. Favorite person? Seriously, couldn't she be more obvious? But Kara wanted to wait for the right moment. This date has to be perfect because Lena deserves nothing but the best.
Kara cleared her throat and drank water so her dry throat wouldn't give up the ghost because of nervousness.
"Soo... Do you want to go with me?"
"YES. YES YES YES and thousand times YES!", Lena cried out.
Kara had to laugh again, "Is that my girlfriend talking or just the scientist?"
"A little bit of both. But mostly your girlfriend who wants to see what your childhood was like," Lena admitted with a smile.
"Okay, that reassures me a bit. Do you have any other questions?"
"Yes, what is a hidden talent that not many know about you? Without your superpowers"
"Ehm, Alex always says I can sing very well, and at the karaoke evenings, I was never booed. So I think that's a talent that many don't know about."
"YOU can sing?" asked Lena impressed.
And at that moment Kara got a great idea.
