"I love you, Lena Luthor. With everything I have."

Lena couldn't believe what she just heard. Her Kara was really saying the three words. So she hadn't misheard when they were both on the sofa in the morning and Kara was talking afterward about how she loves to eat breakfast. So there was a "y."

But Lena didn't know what to say back. Did she love Kara too? Yes, definitely. But what would happen if she said it? Would it destroy her happiness? Would it put Kara in even more danger? Because if her enemies found out that Kara was the most important person in her life, then Kara would be the target. Then she would be in danger not only as Supergirl but also as Kara Danvers. Lena could never do that to Kara. Was it a mistake to get together with her? Their relationship was secret at the moment and only Alex and Kelly knew about it, but if she stayed with Kara more often now, then everyone would know about it right away. Why hadn't Lena thought things through before she got together with Kara? She had let her feelings guide her and now she didn't know what to do. No matter what she decided now, she would hurt Kara.

She suddenly felt Kara stroking her cheek. She waited for a reaction.

Tears formed in Lena's eyes, but she held them back. Kara noticed, though. Kara always noticed when something was different with her, she always could read Lena the best, no matter how much Lena wanted to hide her feelings.

"Kara I...you...we...", Lena fell silent again. She couldn't form a sentence again, she was always so vulnerable with Kara. She wasn't ready to say anything yet.

"Hey... It's all right, Lena. You don't have to say it back. You don't have to say anything at all. I just wanted you to know how I feel about you. I'm not just in love with you anymore. I love you."

Kara saw Lena's held back tears, now coming to the surface. She wiped some away with her thumb and then hugged her. She didn't know what to do now, should she give Lena space to think? Should Kara just keep holding her or should she say something else? Kara had no idea. She didn't want to lose Lena, but she can't hold back her feelings anymore.

But before Kara could ask what Lena wanted now, she heard people screaming and 5 seconds later Alex spoke in the earbud.

"Kara, I'm sorry to interrupt. But we need you, and we need you NOW."

Alex sounded worried, so it was something bad otherwise she wouldn't interrupt Kara's date.

Kara slowly let go of Lena and pressed her earbud to answer. "I'm coming, I heard people screaming, what's going on?"

While Alex explained to her that a gang of aliens was just spreading terror, Kara gave Lena an apologetic look and sprinted to her room to take off the blue dress to wear her Supergirl outfit instead.

Lena watched everything in slow motion, there was just so much happening at once and everything was like mush in her head. Where was Lena Luthor, the strong CEO everyone was afraid of and respected? Who always knew what to do and never lost her voice. She missed her right now because she didn't like not being able to react.

When Kara stood in front of her again after a few seconds, she gave her a soft kiss on her forehead. "Duty calls." she said, and then walked towards the window.

Lena knew something was up and Supergirl was needed now. She pulled herself together. "Take care of yourself, please," she whispered. Kara quickly turned back to her. Lena noticed her sad look for a moment. "Always." she then replied and put on her Supergirl expression and flew out the window.

Left behind was Lena, who now finally had time to relive everything in her head and process everything that had happened in the last few hours.

That was chapter 26.
