Episode 8: Only Hope

Author's Note: I DO NOT OWN THE RIGHTS NOR AM I THE CREATOR OF THE SONG TSUBAKI PERFORMS!

All credit to Mandy Moore (artist) and Jonathan Foreman (writer) for the amazing song!

Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjAoFJ7k--s

Here is some instrumental sheet music where the voice is transcribed as violin if y'all are curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1riprmw5nk

Also, technical music terms:

1. Arpeggio: when the notes of a chord are played quickly one by one as opposed to all at once, starting from the lowest note and going to the highest (unless indicated otherwise by composer)

2. C6: referencing the position of the "C" keys on a piano. The "middle C" is C4, and then you count up or down from there.

3. Fermata: hold a note longer than it's notated beat, usually about 2 beats longer

"Are you SERIOUS?!" Kaori squealed with delight. Tsubaki was somewhat embarrassed.

"Well, yes," Tsubaki laughed. "I've only been with my voice instructor for three days, but we'll continue our lessons until the talent show next month! And, well, this song my cousin in America recommended to me has great piano and violin!"

"You bet it does!" Kaori said excitedly, jumping up and down. "I've never heard anything by Mandy Moore, but this song will make a perfect accompaniment for me and Kousei to play for you!"

"Think Kousei will be up for it?" Tsubaki asked worriedly.

"Well, what'd we do when he was all mopey about playing Saint Sean's Introduccion with me?" Kaori recollected. "Besides, I'm sure he'll love this song as well!"

"Don't you guys go more for the classical stuff?" Tsubaki replied.

"Well yeah, but for something to learn in a month, this type of song is perfect!" Kaori said. "And unlike other hip-hop songs, it's not all bland in the instrumental section!"

Tsubaki smiled with relief.

"Thank you, Kaori," Tsubaki said, giving Kaori a sisterly hug. "I really appreciate this."

"Of course!" Kaori grinned. "I do have one condition though."

Tsubaki's interest was piqued. "Which is?"

"I want you to be my Maid Of Honor when Kousei and I get married!"

Tsubaki bit her lip...it still felt a little too soon for Kaori to be bringing that up. But rather than start a tiff over it, Tsubaki just smiled slyly and countered with her own stipulation.

"Do I get to throw the most rice at Kousei?" Tsubaki said, rubbing her hands together.

"I'll let you dump a whole barrel on that knucklehead!" Kaori said cheerfully, and the two friends laughed. Much to Tsubaki's relief, it was now becoming easier for the two of them to be friends again. As Kaori escorted Tsubaki back to the Music Prep Room, she revealed a prank she was about to pull on Kousei once her and Tsubaki finished talking with him. Tsubaki gasped with amusement as Kaori described it, and happily agreed to not hinder Kaori once the time for the prank came.

The two girls opened the door of the Music Prep Room to find Kousei's head slumped over the lid of the piano keys, snoring obnoxiously. Kaori crept up to him and surprised him with a loud Boo! that rudely roused Kousei and caused him to throw sheet music everywhere.
