I sit in my car on a sunny August day
Positioned in the poorly paved parking lot
Of freeman Park
It's two o clock in the afternoon
And it's hot as hellI'm supposed to be working
But there's too many people
And I don't feel like being yelled at today
Yelling makes me tense
And I start to cry before I realize it's happening
And the noise of it is just too muchWith my windows down to let in a breeze
I can hear louder voices coming from the other side of the park
Not sure if it's in anger or happiness
But it still makes my skin crawlDuke Ellington plays koko through my car speakers
Thanks to my obsession with older music
On my loaded ipod
The Jazz drowns the noise out
Helping me ignore the human noises around meI try my breathing
And I let my mind wander
It always seems to wander to the same place
It goes to an open room with mismatched couches
And good people
We choose an item that we find important
And that item becomes the talking stick
We share our thoughts as the item gets passed around
Then we start on theatre games
Soon enough
There will be play creation
The night will always end too soon
We'll close the night the same way we opened it
With an item of importance
Once circle is closed
We'll bid each other goodnight from the sidewalk outside
And see you next weekStrawberry Alarm Clock plays from my car speakers now
And it's a half hour later
It's August in summer
And I'm in my carAfter a few more minutes
To make myself stay in this timescape
I continue my shift
Somewhat disconnected from the time travel
To a happier place
