I felt a throbbing pain coming from the side of my head as I attempted to open my eyes. My eyelids felt extremely heavy and I was finding it hard to get them to open. I tried again and once I finally got them to flutter open I shut them tight as the bright lights blinded me.
Slowly I began to open my eyes again and let them get used to the lights of the room. The room. I looked around and it wasn't hard to tell that I was in a hospital. Thoughts of what happened yesterday rushed into my head and I looked down to see my arm wrapped up in gauze.
I let out a sigh and tilted my head back up to see Nikki sleeping in a chair on the right side of my bed. On the left was another chair that was empty. The sound of the room door opening caught my attention. Aspen had walked in and stopped when he saw me staring back at him.
"Ryder... Ryder!"
He quickly made his way over to me and wrapped his arms around me like I was going to disappear if he let go.
"You're finally awake!"
He planted a hard kiss on my lips then turned towards Nikki while holding my hand.
"Nikki get up, Ryder's awake!"
Her eyes quickly fluttered open and she shot out of the chair to hug me.
"Oh my god thank goodness you're alright! You've been asleep for almost 2 days. We had to tell your mom that you were having a sleep over at Aspen's house."
Thank god they didn't tell my mom about this. She's been through enough abuse and I don't need her to worry about this. Just as I was about to reply, a doctor walked on.
"Oh, well hello Ryder I see that you are awake."
"Yes and I would like to know when I can go home."
"Right, well the cuts on your arm weren't too deep and none of them required any stitches. However, you did have a head injury that when combined with your blood loss put you into a temporary coma. Seeing as though you have woken up earlier than I had expected I do believe that you can be discharged today."
I let out a sigh of relief. I don't like hospitals. Never have. The doctor checked me over to see if I had a concussion and to change the bandages on my arm. After that was done the doctor left and I got dressed into my normal clothes.
"I told them I was your brother so I could sign you out and they wouldn't call your mom. We are free to go now, I signed the papers."
I nodded and kissed his cheek as the three of us left the hospital. We dropped Nikki off at home after I promised to call her later to tell her that I was fine and that she would see me at school tomorrow. School. Oh tomorrow is not going to be fun.
Once we made it back to Aspen's place I called my mom to tell her I was spending another night at Aspen's and that I would see her tomorrow. It's times like these that I'm grateful for my mom being so cool. Since it was already so late we decided to go to sleep. After I changed I got into bed and curled up close to Aspen while he wrapped his arms around my waist. He kissed my forehead and we fell asleep.
