Hotaru Rêverie Karasuma felt her legs give out when she met eyes with different shades of blue. She thought her sense of hearing was deceiving her, as well as her sight, when she heard their voices calling her name in a tired but cheerful tone. Her vision began to blur as she heard them laughing and felt warm hands caress her shoulders and Kieran's voice whispering something she couldn't quite make out.

For the first time in a long time, a real smile appeared on Rêverie's lips and her eyes once again showed a sparkle that only appeared with her family. Hotaru Rêverie Karasuma felt alive again as she listened to them chatting happily.

On 13 September 2005 Isabella Marie Swan Higginbotham celebrated her eighteenth birthday at the Cullen family home while the former Kirigaya family celebrated the awakening of three of its members.

Yuna Aelan Sakurai smiled as she watched Nagisa Arien Kirigaya laugh at what Kieran was telling them. She felt her heart leap as their eyes met and the world became just the two of them, her cheeks turning pink as she clutched the sheet in her hands with determination.

Her body leaned forward, seeking Arien's lips, and she felt a great relief as she was reciprocated and hands rested on hers.

“Finally!” exclaimed Rêverie's voice, pulling them out of their little world.

Aelan and Arien looked red-faced at the others as they smiled happily.

“Here I thought I was going to have to put up with your cries any longer," she added, receiving an affirmation from her brother Sora.

Aelan sought Arien's gaze and chuckled as she saw him do the same to her.

After experiencing death, Yuna Aelan Sakurai realized that she could no longer be a coward and hide her feelings for Arien for much longer.

“There's something you should know…”

“Rêve, is there something wrong?” Dashiel questioned at the sight of his sister's crestfallen head.

“We... we're not human anymore,” she whispered without looking up for fear of being hated.

“We're half vampire now,” Kieran revealed, looking at the stunned expression on all three of their faces.

Silence reigned in the once lively room. Rêverie didn't want to look up and meet hateful glances at her, Kieran didn't know what else to say and simply watched the expressions of the four of them.

However, that scene was quickly replaced when Arien's chuckle broke out.

“B-But w-we're still... still h-hum-man-ns,” Arien chuckled.

“But better,” Dashiel added, draping his arm around Arien's shoulders as he grinned big at his sister's surprised expression.

“We know it was to save us,” Aelan assured, “although... I don't feel like drinking blood,” she said in confusion.

“Because it's not necessary, in any case animal blood should help if you need it,” Rêverie replied, her body feeling lighter. “We are a mix of Ange's race and the one in Paris.”

“Then…”

“The Malnomen doesn't affect us and we can participate in the Visual Prison's, but its rules do not affect us as if we were really part of it,” explained Rêverie to his brother's doubts. “And thanks to that we do not necessarily need to take blood.”

“We are a new race then.”

“You could say it that way,” Kieran nodded at Dashiel's comment.

The race that inhabited Paris lived in a kind of alternate world set in the 19th century and was divided into two clans: the Red Moon clan, the most abundant, and the Blue Moon clan, apparently extinct. In all of history, only one vampire was known to have been born under the blue moon, Vanitas, and he was disowned by the Red Moon clan, as it was said that to be born under the light of the blue moon was unfortunate. During his exile, Vanitas created a book called the ‘Book of Vanitas’ in which resided a curse for Red Moon vampires, if this curse reached them they would forget their true name and succumb to an insatiable need to drink blood.

Vanitas was the only Blue Moon vampire, however, due to Dr. Moreau's experiments there were four children who obtained the blood of this vampire: Vanitas, an orphan who ended up being adopted and renamed by the Blue Moon vampire himself; Mikhail, another orphan adopted by the Blue Moon vampire; Rêverie and Kieran, Dr. Moreau's only son.

On the other hand, throughout the world, but especially in Harajuku, there was another race of vampires. This race was ruled by the Scarlet Moon, who appeared only once a year during Halloween and was visible only to vampires. During this event there was an event, the Visual Prison, where the vampires sang and whoever managed to charm the most people would be rewarded with a Scarlet Tear. Whoever possessed ten Scarlet Tears would be able to create a Scarlet Moon rule that all vampires had to follow, otherwise they would be punished by the power of the Scarlet Moon.

Something unique of the Scarlet Moon race was that there were no female vampires, at least until Rêverie came along.

Yuna Aelan Sakurai and Nagisa Arien Kirigaya returned to Forks and settled in their former home during the month of February. It wasn't long before a member of the Quileute tribe visited them and threatened them to leave Forks.

In response to that threat, Hotaru Rêverie Karasuma traveled to Forks to resolve the misunderstanding between them and to ensure that her family was harmless. She gained the trust of the Quileute tribe by saving Harry Clearwater from death after an encounter with Victoria. From then on the entire tribe —especially the Clearwater family— felt grateful for Rêverie and opened their arms to the hybrid couple who loved to stroll along the reservation's beach.

Yuna Aelan Sakurai and Nagisa Arien Kirigaya helped Jacob Black when they found him suffering from the effects of his first transformation, since then they have helped the new shapeshifters with their transformation, among them the Clearwater brothers.

Hotaru Rêverie Karasuma soon left Forks, seeing that it was safe for her siblings. With the Cullen family gone, Isabella in a supposed state of depression and the protection of the Quileute tribe, Rêverie returned to take care of unfinished business.

Isabella Marie Swan Higginbotham was unaware of Eliza Swan's return, even when she burst onto the reservation to see her childhood friend, Jacob Black.
