Carlisle felt a tightness in his chest, even though it shouldn't be possible, as he watched the scene unfold before his eyes. Thanks to his three hundred and sixty-six years of life, he had the experience to act and pretend that he didn't really remember Rêverie, but that didn't stop it from hurting him to see his false relationship with this man.

Thanks to Alice's guesswork and Magnus's quick return and a spell on his part, no one in his family lost their memories of what had actually happened in Forks during that year and a half in Rêverie's presence.

He also knew that the relationship between the man and Rêverie was false thanks to Magnus, who had heard it from Kieran, but that didn't mean it didn't hurt to see her smiling like that to someone else.

“I finished packing and making my rounds,” he reported, knocking on the door, not wanting to see Rêverie's eyes sparkle any longer as they watched another man. “Should I come back later?”

“No, you're just in time. Let's go,” she commanded, getting up and taking the man by the arm.

Rêverie walked past him, intertwining her hand with the man's hand as she left the room.

How much longer are you going to keep this up?

His eyes kept searching for Rêverie's and losing himself in them each time he found them or even without, just by finding Rêverie his mind began to wander without he could even realized it.

“Is there something on my face, Cullen, or why are you staring at me?”

Rêverie opened her eyes and fixed them on him.

Why do you look so tired?

“I was wondering why we were going to Harajuku,” he replied, hiding his concern.

“I have to get someone checked out,” she replied holding out the information to him as her lips moved to say the word ‘vampire’ without uttering a word, “He had a somewhat unique experience recently and I need to make sure he's still in good shape or else someone will be sad about it.”

And there came other words that soothed his heart and reassured him that —even if it was just for a little— Rêverie still had feelings for him. Over the past month as his intern he had caught moments when she would lose herself and confide in him things she wouldn't normally do or how she seemed to let her guard down in front of him, something he had come to learn over the course of his stay in Forks with her.

Maybe it was his imagination and he was wrong, but he hoped that wasn't the case.

Rêverie's eyes had closed again, but that didn't mean she couldn't feel his gaze on her so he forced himself to look away from her and at the documents in his hand.
