Carlisle watched with a smile as Rêverie moved around the kitchen as if it were her own. He didn't quite understand why they had brought Charlie with them, but he was still delighted to see his mate.

Deep down, though, he still had his doubts about her.

“How much longer are you going to keep watching me?”

Rêverie's eyes met his, making him forget his doubts about her and the way she was. His body moved until there were only a few inches separating them, yet unlike the other women who blushed at his proximity, Rêverie watched him as if he were nothing with her cold eyes.

“I suppose you have spaghetti, it's Narumi's favorite dish, or haven't you had time to go shopping yet?”

His eyes never left hers as he pulled a packet of spaghetti out of one of the drawers.

A smile spread across his face as their fingers touched. Rêverie broke eye contact with him and turned on one of the stoves, leaving the packet on the table.

“Breadcrumbs and tomato sauce?” she asked with her back to him as she placed a pot on the lit cooker.

Rêverie felt Carlisle's body move closer to hers, so that her back pressed against Carlisle's chest, one hand rested on her waist and the other opened one of the top drawers.

‘Turn around and kiss him!’

And who told you I want to do that?

‘Then give me control!’

Don't even dream about it, who knows what madness you're committing.

“Here you go.”

The words sounded close to her ear, and Carlisle's breath brushed against her ear, making her feel an uncomfortable tingle as she felt a weight land on her right shoulder.

“I thought old vampires were reserved, not shameless,” she commented, opening the packet of spaghetti.

“I'm not the one who stole a kiss from someone.”

A what? Thyra!

‘You said to get it on my own.’

“That was Thyra, not me.”

Rêverie left the package on the table and turned to look at him. She seemed to want to make it clear to him that they were two different people, but his eyes couldn't help but land on her lips. He wondered what they tasted like: Thyra's kiss smelled of blood and had a metallic taste, yet Rêverie smelled different from when she was dressed as Cosette. He could smell a strong cigarette scent coming from her, so much so that he wondered if her lips tasted like it. If they had the effect of a drug... one he could never get off.
