Why do I have to search the hill? I mean, sure, its cool, and really big… But its almost impossible to climb. She leaped out of the way of an incoming bunch of stupid teenage boys on a tube sled. And I wouldn’t be surprised if I got run over with all the people out here sledding! She shook her head as she clawed her way up the side of the hill. Who in their right mind would sled down this thing? Much less go through the trouble to climb up it!
Danielle turned to the right and noticed the driveway that led up to the house where most of the people were trekking up the clear asphalt. They had snow plowed the drive and put down salt to melt the ice. Sure! Now I notice the easy way up! When I’ve already crawled up half the frikkin hill! She punched the snow and slowly made her way over to the drive, so not to lose her footing and go sliding down the hill. I wish I had shoes with better traction!
When she made her way to the top, she decided to sit by the house and wait. There were too many people and there was no way to tell if the person they were searching for was here. I mean, what was she going to do? Walk around and ask every person she sees, “Hey! Do you have magic powers?” She would probably get some pretty freaked out stares and be sent to an insane asylum. No one knows that there are people living among them with incredible power and aliens trying to halt the Earth’s rotation. It sounds pretty crazy. She was really hoping that she wouldn’t be the one to find the other… Wow we really need to think of a name for people like us… Danielle began pondering what they could call themselves. Superheroes? No, they weren’t heroes. They didn’t have super powers… although it was pretty close. What would they call their mystical powers? What were they? Cynder had never used a particular name for them… We could be… Superhuman? No that’s worse than calling ourselves superheroes. Ummm… outcasts? Hah, seems more likely…
As she sat there thinking about what they could call themselves, she didn’t notice a teenage boy seat himself next to her. “Hey.” He said, breaking the silence. Danielle nearly jumped out of her skin. She needed to pay more attention. How would she find the other elemental if she didn’t even see this kid sit down next to her? (She had finally decided to call themselves elementals, since their elements such as water and fire were what they could control.)
“Oh, um, hi.” Danielle stuttered, looking over at the boy. He had messy black hair and amber eyes. “Pardon my bluntness, but what do you want?”
The boy chuckled. “You’re sitting here alone. Everyone else is out having fun. Don’t you want to sled?” he asked, his amber eyes sparkling in the sunlight. Danielle looked down and shook her head.
“That’s not exactly why I’m here…” she muttered, hoping he would just leave her alone. When he didn’t respond, she peaked at him out of the corner of her eye. He was still there, smiling. He looked rather familiar…
“Aw, come on. One ride down won’t hurt.” He complained, and flashed her a mischievous smile. “I have one of those old fashioned sleds. We can go down together.” Danielle scrunched up her lips at the corner of her face, thinking about what to do.
“Ahh, I really shouldn’t…” She scooted away from him, hoping he would give up. What is with this creeper? She thought. She didn’t know who this guy was, why did he care about why she was here?
The boy rolled his dreamy eyes and grabbed her hand. Danielle squeaked with surprise as the boy stood up and pulled her to her feet. “Let’s go. Just one run, I swear. Then you can get back to whatever you were doing…which seemed to be a whole lot of nothing.” He joked, pulling her slightly closer to him. Danielle’s response got caught in her throat and her face reddened as he ran his free hand through his hair, still holding onto hers with his other hand. She only nodded and looked down while he smiled a dazzling smile. He was slightly taller than she was, and looked like he was her age, or maybe a little older. She couldn’t tell.
