AN: Starts at the very end of The World Will Know

"The World will feel the fire

And finally know!"

As the newsies finish their song, they all take off their hats and throw them into the air in celebration. Ally included. She didn't think anyone would notice her pinned up hair, as she was in the middle of a large crowd.

However, one person did notice. That person being David. He had been watching the crowd of newsies rallying before his eyes settled on a particularly short newsie with blonde hair. His eyes settled on her just as she threw her hat into the air. As quick as she threw it in the air, she retrieved it and put it back on. Making sure that the majority of her hair was covered. Even though she did it quickly, David still noticed the fact that she had mid-length hair that was messily pinned up, well enough that it wouldn't fall out if a hat was on it though.

Once David realized she had long hair, he took a second look at her to see if his suspicions were correct. Upon second glance, he could see that her body was curvy. A trait that isn't prominent in her male companions.

To confirm his suspicions even further, David makes a mental note to ask Jack about the blonde newsie.

He waits until after Les and Jack get thrown out of Pullitzer's office. And during the gap between that and when they're supposed to meet Denton, a writer interested in covering the newsie rally, for lunch.

"Hey Jack, I've got a question." David states as he walks up to Jack.

"Sure Davey, anything. Ask away." Jack responds, clapping a hand on David's back.

"While the rest of the newsies were throwing their hats in the air, I noticed that one person had their hair pinned up, and they put their hat back on quickly, as if trying to hide their long hair."

"Well, you're a newsie now, so I bet she'd be fine with you knowing. She'll explain everything to you."

"She?" David questions.

Jack chuckles.

"Ally!" He yells over to the group of newsies, "Come over here!"

Ally jogs over.

"What is it, Cowboy?" She asks, eyeing David a little cautiously.

"Well Al, Davey here says that he saw you take off your hat, and now he wants to know more about you. I'll let you two get to know each other." Jack smirks while he walks towards the rest of the newsies.

"I didn't mean it like that." David says as his face turns red.

"Eh, that's just how the Cowboy plays." Ally responds chuckling, though on the inside she's freaking out. She doesn't think she's ever seen a boy cuter than David. But on the outside, she puts on a mask and keeps it cool.

"So, Davey, was it? Would you like to accompany me to this alleyway and we can chat?" She offers.

"Sure." David's voice cracks.

The two teens walk into the alleyway. Ally sits down and pulls David down with her.

"So, you saw me take off my hat. I'm assuming you're wondering why a girl would be running around with newsboys." She chuckles.

"Just a bit. I know my sister would never live this lifestyle."

Ally removes her hat and reveals her pinned hair to Davey.

"Isn't that awfully uncomfortable?" He asks.

"Sometimes, but I'm used to it by now." she responds.

She tells Davey her story. The whole time he listens, only interrupting to ask an occasional question or two. After around an hour, she finishes her tale.

"Wow, that's truly inspiring. I can't believe how sexist this city is that you can't sell papes without dressing as a newsboy. That must be awful to not be able to wear clothes you want to wear." Davey says.

"Well, I wear dresses when I perform. I perform at Irving Hall alongside Medda Larkin to make extra money. I only perform every so often on weekdays and every weekend though. It's like a breath of fresh air to put on a dress and to be a girl every so often." She sighs.

"I just saw Medda perform the other day! She was incredible! I'd love to see you perform as well. I'm sure your voice is great." David exclaims, smiling.

"I've never sat down with someone and told them my story before. Everyone who I've ever met has just known because they've all lived in the newsboy lodging house. It's nice to get the whole story out. Thank you for listening, Davey." She exclaims as she leans her head and rests it on his shoulder.

"Thank you too." He says, leaning his head on her's.

"For what?" she asks.

"Sharing it." he says.

Ally moves her head off of his shoulder to look him in the eyes. He looks her in the eyes as well. She sees his tongue dart out to wet his lips and she does the same. Slowly, she closes her eyes, and inches her head closer to his. He does the same.

Just as their lips are about to make contact, they hear Les yell from around the corner.

"David? David? Are you here?"

Ally and David quickly move away from each other before the nearly ten year old could catch them. Both of them blushing profusely.

"David? Oh hi! Jack says we're gonna be late for lunch with Denton!" the boy yells before taking off running.

David stands up with a sigh before turning to Ally and offering a hand to help her up. She takes his hand and he pulls her up. She's about to walk away and let go of his hand. Not being able to meet his eye, but he pulls her back to him. Looking into her eyes and still holding onto her hand.

"You wanna go to lunch with us? I'm sure Mr. Denton wouldn't mind one more person." David asks.

"I'd love to." She says, smiling at him.

David leads her out of the alleyway, only letting go of her hand as they turn the corner. Both of them still blushing.
