The next day, the newsies are picketing outside of Pullitzer's World building.
"Stop the World! No more papes! Stop the World! No more papes!" they all yell in protest.
The police form a barricade in front of the World building, and all the shoving causes some fights amongst the newsies.
"Davey, I need help over here!" Ally calls, holding Mush and Snipeshooters apart as they try to fight eachother.
Davey quickly runs over.
"Break it up. Break it up! We are all on the same team here!" Davey tries to explain to the boys, who, luckily, understand and stop fighting, but not without sending glares to each other.
Davey pulls Ally away from the two boys, and closer to the front where Racetrack and Spot are residing.
All of a sudden, Weasel leads Jack out, who is wearing a fancy newsie suit, one that looks as though it costs a fortune.
The newsies stop what they're doing and all turn their heads to look at their strike leader.
"Just tell me I'm seeing things. Just tell me I'm seeing things." Spot says in disbelief.
"No, you ain't seeing things. That's Jack. What's he doing?" Racetrack replies, looking pissed off.
"He's dressed like a scabber!" Spot yells.
"Jack? Jack, look at me, will ya? Come on, it's me, Mush. Look at me. What are you doin', Jack?" Mush exclaims as he pushes his way to the front.
"This ain't happening. This can't be happening. What are you doin' Jack? Come on, what are you doin'?" Kid Blink says as he shakes his head.
Mush and Kid Blink are pushed back by Ally and Davey, who force their way back to the front, disbelief written all over their faces.
"Come on. What is this? Where'd you get them clothes?" Boots yells from beside Les.
"Mr. Pulitzer picked them out himself. A special gift to a special new employee." Weasel smirks.
"He sold us out!" Spot exclaims, causing the rest of the newsies to start yelling insults at Jack. Except Ally and Davey, who just stand there with looks of confusion, hurt, and disbelief.
"I'll give you a new suit! You bum! I'll soak ya!" Racetrack yells.
"Hey, hey, hey! Let me get my hands dirty. Come here you dirty rotten scabber! Traitor!" Spot yells while being pulled back by some other newsies.
Weasel takes notice of Ally and Davey.
"Aww. You two wanna talk to him? Come on, come on. Sure. Got right ahead." Weasel gestures for the police to let them through.
Ally and David walk up to Jack, who stands there, pretty much motionless.
"So, this is why you didn't escape last night. You're a liar! You lied about everything," David yells, "You lied about your father being out west, 'cause he's not out west! You didn't even tell us your real name!"
"I thought you and I were close," Ally adds, "I thought we's were like a family."
"So? What you wanna do about it?" Jack remarks.
I don't understand you." Davey says, shaking his head.
"Oh, so let me spell it out for ya. You see Dave, I ain't got nobody tucking me in at night, like you. It's just me, I gotta look out for myself. And Ally, you don't know what sleeping on the streets is like. You've lived in the lodging house your whole life. So don't come after me about family, you orphan. We both have no family! " Jack yells.
"You had the newsies..." Ally's voice cracks, she's heartbroken about what Jack said.
"Oh, what'd being a newsie ever give me but a dime a day and a few black eyes? You know, I can't afford to be a kid no more. For the first time in my life, I got money in my pockets. Real money. Money, you understand? I got more on the way and as soon as I collect, I'm gone, I'm away. Alright?" Jack says as he gets up into their faces.
"Well, that's good. That's good because we don't need you! We don't need you! All those words you said, those were mine." Davey says as he throws his arm around Ally, who has angry tears running down her face.
"Yeah, but you never had the guts to put them across yourself, didja?" Jack remarks.
"I do now." Davey says before turning him and Ally around and starting to walk back to the group. Ally turns around again, glaring at Jack.
"What'sa matta? Got a problem?" Jack mocks.
Ally pushes Davey's arm off her and rushes towards Jack, ready to attack him. But Weasel and a few policemen push her away from him. She still rushes forward, swinging her arms towards Jack in a weak attempt to hit him. A policeman holds her back.
"Maybe you'd like a new suit of your own, huh?" Weasel chuckles.
"Never!" Ally shouts into Weasel's face.
"Get outta here! Get outta here!" Weasel waves her away.
"I'm not like you!" Ally shouts at Jack, her eyes blazing with fury.
Weasel turns around and slaps her across the face, the policemen then throw her back into the group of newsies, Davey catches her and holds her throbbing cheek in his hand as they watch the police surround Jack and lead him back into the distribution center and away from the newsies.
"Traitor!" Spot yells.
"You make me sick!" Kid Blink exclaims.
"I trusted you!" Ally sobs.
"Seize the day, huh Jack?" Racetrack sneers.
"He's foolin' 'em, so he can spy on 'em or something. Yeah, yeah, that's it. He's foolin' 'em!" Les tries to defend Jack, who he sees as a hero.
Ally pulls Les into a hug.
"Yeah, he's spying on them, kid." Racetrack smiles at the boy's innocence.
The newsies leave the distribution center and head back to the lodging house and in Davey and Les' case, home.
