Later that night, the newsies, along with Davey, Les, and Sarah, could be found in Irving Hall. Waiting for Ally and Medda's performance.
Jack, David, and Spot were on the stage. Ready to give everyone a pep talk for the upcoming rally.
After the pep talk and the cheering of the newsies, Jack, Davey, and Spot make their way back to their seats, and shortly after, the show begins.
Ally walks onto the stage in a frilly green and blue dress, with her hair done in curls, and her makeup done perfectly. She begins singing while the newsies cheer for her and sing along, especially Davey.
"High times, hard times
Sometimes the living is sweet
And sometimes there's nothing to eat
But I always land on my feet." Ally sings.
Then, Medda walks onto the stage, her hair done in the same style as Ally's, with the same dress, but this time in magenta and pink.
"So when there's dry times
I wait for high times and then
I put on my best
And I stick out my chest." Medda sings.
"And I'm off to the race's again!" They sing together in harmony.
"Hello, newsies!" Medda greets.
"What's new?" Ally finishes Medda's question.
However, without their knowing, outside the police and Snyder are there to arrest Jack and any other newsie they can get their hands on.
"So your old lady don't love you no more." Medda sings in a sad voice.
"So you're afraid there's a wolf at your door." Ally sings in a Swedish accent.
"So you've got street rats that scream in your ear." Ally and Medda gesture to their ears.
"You win some, you lose some my dear!" They sing together, again, in harmony.
Ally and Medda then make their way into the crowd to dance and interact with the newsies, all while singing their song. Davey stands up to go dance with Ally.
"Oh... High times, hard times
Sometimes the living is sweet
And sometimes there's nothing to eat
But I always land on my feet." Medda, Ally, and the newsies all sing.
Davey finally makes his way to Ally and skip hops with her on one side, while Mush takes her other arm and skip hops with them as well.
"So when there's dry times
I wait for high times and then."
Ally stops skip hopping and looks into Davey's eyes, they begin to elegantly slow dance on the stage.
"I put on my best
And I stick out my chest
And I'm off to the races again."
They stop slow dancing while Medda once again joins them on the stage. Two fancy swigs lower from the ceiling.
"I put on my best!" Ally sings and the newsies repeat her.
"And I stick out my chest!" Medda sings and the newsies repeat.
"And I'm off!" Ally sings and the newsies repeat.
"And I'm off!" Medda sings with the newsies repeat.
"And I'm off!" They sing together, each getting on one of the swings. Davey goes behind Ally to push her, and Racetrack goes behind Medda.
"To the races again!" Everyone sings while Medda and Ally get pushed on the swings.
The song ends and the girls get a standing ovation from the newsies.
Davey is in aw at Ally. He thinks she is the most incredible person he's ever met.
Snyder enters, and in all the commotion, only Denton notices. Denton tries to distract him, but fails. The police block the entrance.
Davey sees Snyder and runs to tell Jack.
Jack runs to Medda and kisses her on the cheek, thanking her.
"Great performance, Ally!" Jack yells as he grabs Sarah's hand and tries to get her to safety.
Racetrack gets Medda backstage safely before he gets knocked out by a large man.
Davey grabs Ally's hand and tries to get her to safety, but she trips and falls in her dress and shoes that she normally doesn't wear for running.
David tries to turn back to get her, but the chaos and the crowd block his path.
That is until he sees a bad man grab her by her hair and yank her towards him, inching his hand towards her breast as she struggles to get away.
Davey finds a new strength inside of him, and he pushes his way through the crowd and punches the guy directly in the face. He pulls a shocked Ally into a hug while he races her backstage, where she quickly tears off her dress and changes into her regular attire. Pinning up her hair as she runs onto stage and kicks one of the large men in the gut.
He puts the hat over her pinned hair and says: "Perfect."
Jack runs over to them and stands in the middle of the stage with them. Snyder jumps up onto the stage, charging at them.
Ally sits on the swing and yells: "Push me!"
Jack and Davey pull her back and shove her forward. Her high heels jam into Snyder's stomach, causing him to go reeling backwards.
"Get out of here! Go!" David yells at Jack.
Jack makes a beeline to the exit, while Ally shoves Davey off of the stage. Snyder runs to her and grabs her arms before she runs. Davey turns back to see Snyder holding her hands behind her back. Davey is about to run back for her, but Ally screams: "Beat it!"
Davey runs, but looks back long enough to see Ally get hit in the head with a club and dragged away.
Davey is the only newsie who escapes, aside from Les. Jack gets caught by the bulls. Davey immediately runs to Sarah, Les, and Denton. Crying because he just saw the girl he loved get manhandled and knocked out. Sarah tries to comfort her brother the best she can, but it isn't enough. They have to wait till the trial the next day to see their friends. The entire night, Davey cries himself to sleep. With no Ally to comfort him.
