Ally and Davey make their way to Denton's apartment. They find Jack, Sarah, and Les waiting outside.
"So...." Sarah starts, smiling widely.
"So what?" Davey asks.
"Are you guys, you know."
"A thing?" Davey responds, blushing.
"Yea." Ally laughs, snuggling her head into Davey's chest.
Sarah, Jack, and Les cheer.
Suddenly, Davey remembers that he's mad at Jack. Although he's less mad now because he saved both him and his new girlfriend, he's still a bit ticked off.
"What? You couldn't stay away?" Davey asks, coldly.
"Well, I guess I can't be something I ain't." Jack responds.
"A scab?" Ally asks.
"No, smart." Jack responds.
Davey and Ally chuckle.
Then, Jack turns to the door and knocks on it.
Denton opens the door.
"Did you mean what you wrote here? 'Bout all these sweatshop kids listening to me?" Jack asks Denton. Referring to his article, where it states that not only are newsies looking up to Jack, but kids who are forced into labor around New York City are too.
"I don't write anything I don't mean. Come on in. I'm just packing a few things." Denton responds.
The five kids walk into the apartment full of packed boxes.
As they are walking in, David stares coldly at Denton. Still not fully trusting the man after he left the strike to work with the Sun. But overall, Davey is a forgiving person. So he smiles and closes the door behind him.
Denton invites the kids to sit at his table, then he starts his explanation.
"So, yes, I mean it. The city thrives on child labour. A lot of people make money that way. They're terrified that the newsies strike will spread." he starts.
"Well, there' really not much chance of that as long as they got the power." Jack responds.
"Sometimes, all it takes is a voice, one voice. Then a thousand. Unless it's silenced." Denton says, wisely.
"Why can't we spread the strike? Have another big rally and get the word out to all the sweatshop kids? Why not?" Ally questions.
"What are we going to do? Print an ad in the newspaper?" David asks.
"No! We'll do better than that. We'll make our own paper. We tell 'em they gotta join us. Isn't that a good idea?" Jack exclaims.
"Yeah, it is. But what do we know about printing a newspaper?" Davey asks.
"Nothing, but our man Denton..." Jack starts, grabbing Denton's shoulder.
"Yeah, but our man Denton has something more important to do. He's going to be an ace war correspondent, right Denton?" Davey glares at Denton.
Ally puts her hand on Davey's bicep, silently telling him to back off.
"Alright. Where do we start?" Denton says, ignoring Davey.
Denton nods to Ally, silently thanking her. She smiles in return.
"Alright, we gotta move fast. Now, we'll need the newsies to circulate." Ally states.
"There's something else that we need. We need a printing press." Denton says.
"Just so happens I know a guy with a printing press." Jack smirks.
