The rest of the newsies are confused when Jack, Boots, Ally, David, and Les return to the square without Spot.
"Jack. So, where's Spot?" Racetrack asks.
"He was concerned about us being serious. You imagine that?" Jack responds, scoffing.
"Well, Jack, maybe we ought to ease off a little," Racetrack starts, "Without Spot and the others, there ain't enough of us, Jack."
"Maybe we're moving too soon. Maybe we ain't ready, you know?" Mush adds.
"I definitely think we should forget about it for a little while." Skittery agrees.
"Oh, do ya?" Jack mocks and rolls his eyes.
"Yeah." Skittery says under his breath.
"Yeah, I mean, without Brooklyn... you know?" Racetrack mumbles, uncomfortably.
"Spot was right, is this just a game to you guys?" Jack growls.
David, who had been standing next to Ally for the whole discussion, suddenly moves away from her. Confused, Ally turns her head to where he is walking to. She follows him and he begins to sing.
"Open the gates and seize the day
Don't be afraid and don't delay
Nothing can break us No one can make us
Give our rights away
Arise and seize the day!"
David has never hyped up the newsies before, and looked rather uncomfortable. Ally nodded to him, and took charge. She hops up onto the statue ledge, pulling David up with her.
"Now is the time to seize the day!" She sings and the newsboys repeat after her.
"Send out the call and join the fray!" Again, the newsboys repeat after her.
Ally smiles at David.
"Wrongs will be righted if we're united!"
When she sings the word united she grabs David's hand and holds it into the air.
"Let us seize the day!" she finishes.
She gives David a smile and a nod. Telling him to take over. He does, but he keeps hold of her hand for confidence, and just because he wants to.
AN: Wink wink, nudge nudge lol.
"Friends of the friendless seize the day!" he sings and the newsies repeat.
"Raise up the torch and light the way!" they repeat.
"Proud and defiant
We'll slay the giant
Let us seize the day!"
Ally and David hop down from the ledge, hands still joined. All while this is happening, Denton walks by and sees the newsies performing their dance and song. He has a look on his face that is truly one of inspiration.
"Neighbor to neighbor
Father to son
One for all and all for one!"
"Open the gates and seize the day!" repeated.
"Don't be afraid and don't delay!" repeated.
"Nothing can break us
No one can make us
Give our rights away
Neighbor to neighbor
Father to son!
One for all and all for one!"
They stop singing and dancing. All looking at the circulation bell, which had just begun to ring.
"Anybody hear that?" Ally yelled.
"No!" the newsboys respond.
"So what are we gonna do about it?" Jack yells.
"Soak 'em!" the newsies yell, running towards Weasel's gate.
