Later that day, the newsies are outside of Weasel's Factory once more. They sing as a group:
"Open the gates and seize the day
Don't be afraid and don't delay
Nothing can break us
No one can make us
Give our rights away
Arise and seize the day."
The newsies dance in the square and block the entrance to Pullitzer's building. Some scabs attempt to rush by them to buy papes from Weasel. The newsies follow them through the gate and sandwich the scabs in between a giant door and them.
"Alright. Everyone remain calm." Davey attempts to calm the crowd.
"Let's soak 'em for Crutchy!" Ally yells.
She and the rest of the newsies charge forward, much to Davey's dismay.
The scabs run around the door as the door opens. Large men with clubs and chains come out from behind the door.
"Jack! Jack!, it's a trick!" yells Racetrack.
The newsies turn around and try to flee out through the gate, but the scabs close the gate, trapping them in with the men.
Denton, who was going to do research for his story, sees them being locked up and runs forward, trying to open the gate.
"Aren't you going to stop them, sir?" Denton asks a policeman on a horse who is standing outside the gate, doing nothing.
"Move along, mister." the policeman replies.
Just as all hope seems lost, the Brooklyn newsies appear on the rooftop, led by none other than Spot Conlon.
"Never fear, Brooklyn is here."
"It's Brooklyn!" Mush yells.
The newsies turn the cards and start to attack the large men.
Ally and Davey are fighting together, helping to defend one another. After a while, the large men back off. They flee through the gate, which was opened by Spot.
Denton walks in with his camera and yells for the newsies to get together. Jack, Davey, Ally, and Les in the front middle, all smiling. Davey with his arm around Ally's waist, and Ally with her hand on Davey's chest.
