The day after, Jack walks up from the basement of the World building, which is his bedroom for the time being, and is also the room that houses Pullitzer's printing press. He puts on his fancy newsboy outfit and walks across the street to the distribution center.
Once there, he gets in line with the scabbers to get his papes to sell for Pullitzer. Oscar and Morris waltz up to him.
"Sleep well Cowboy?" Weasel mocks as Jack walks up to receive his papes.
"Come with us Cowboy. We're gonna go fix your pals, Davey and that short newsie. Fix them so they can't walk." Oscar says, laughing. The short newsie is Ally, Oscar and Morris don't know her name.
"Shut up." Jack says as he lunges forward, about to attack the brothers.
"Ah! Lift one finger and it's right back to the Refuge. Next!" Weasel tells Jack, who backs off and takes his papes.
The Delanceys smirk, knowing Jack can't do anything to them.
While that's happening, Ally wakes up, puts on her newsboy outfit, and decides to go on a walk to calm her mind. A million thoughts are swimming in her mind, and she needs a way to calm down. Little did she know, on the other side of the city, Davey woke up and decided to do the same.
Later that morning, Sarah is walking to work with a basket of lace in her hands. Les is following her, swinging his sword around as they walk.
"Morning." Sarah says to a lady she passes.
"Good mornin', dear." the lady responds, smiling.
Just then, Oscar "bumps" into Sarah.
"Excuse me, Sweetface." Oscar "charmingly" smiles and mock bows.
Sarah smiles back, believing it to be an accident, and continues walking, not knowing that Oscar walks closely behind her.
Suddenly, Morris steps out in front of Sarah, sandwiching her between him and Oscar.
"Where's your little brother and your friend, Tootsie? Where's little Davey and that short newsie?" Morris asks, hitting the basket out of Sarah's hands.
Sarah tries to get away, but the brothers push her around.
"Leave my sister alone!" Les yells, running forward to attack Oscar with his wooden sword.
Oscar easily stops Les' attempts and shoves him into a puddle on the side of the road. Morris holds onto Sarah so that she can't help Les.
"Stop it! Leave him alone!" Sarah shouts as Oscar picks up her youngest brother and pushes him into a pile of baskets. Oscar makes his way back over to his brother and Sarah, leaving Les alone.
The Delanceys try to push her into an alleyway, but Sarah throws their arms off of her.
"You stupid ape." she says before she punches Morris in the face. It doesn't seem to faze him though.
Sarah shrieks when she sees that her punch did nothing, and she attempts to flee by running into the alleyway, which happens to be a dead end.
Ally, who had been on her walk at the time, heard Sarah's shriek and ran to the direction she heard it come from. When she gets there, she sees Les lying in the pile of baskets.
"Les! What happened, are you alright?" Ally asks as she helps the boy up.
"I'm alright, I'm alright. Help Sarah!" Les says, pointing towards the alleyway.Ally runs into the alleyway, only to see the Delanceys holding Sarah against the wall across from the entrance. Sarah looks at Ally and panics. Knowing the Delanceys are after her.
