I honked my car's horn a few houses down from Ashley's letting her know we were here. She appeared walking down the sidewalk in jean shorts and a tee shirt.

When she got into the passenger's seat I decided to introduce her, "This is mommy's friend Ashley."

"Hi, Ashley." They both said in unison, just like we practiced.

"Hey guys, your mom told me all about how awesome you two are."

"Really?" Abby said in excitement from the backseat.

"Yeah." Ashley turned around to face the kids in the backseat as I started driving, "She told me how pretty you were, Abby. And she's right, you look like a princess."

I glanced in the rear view mirror to see Abby almost falling out of her carseat in excitement, "Do I look like Princess Jasmine!?"

I was surprised that Ashley remembered what I'd told her at the cemetery, "Yeah, totally."

"OH MY GOSH, THANK YOU!"

She laughed, "And Miles, your mom told me all about your amazing drawings."

"Did I say amazing or horrible?" I mumbled for only Ashley to hear.

"Bitch." She whispered even though there was a wide smile on her face.

"So where do you guys want to go?" I asked.

"The park."

"Are you cool with that?" I asked Ashley.

"Yeah, absolutely."

As I drove, she made conversation with the kids. It was sweet how much effort she was putting in and I could already tell they really liked her.

We arrived at the park and got out of the car, walking toward the playground, "Ashley? Can you hold my hand?" Abby asked, causing my heart melted. The image of them walking together, hand in hand, was adorable.

When we made it to the playground Miles spoke, "Can you play with us Ashley?"

I immediately cut in before she could reply, "Actually, Miles sweetie, Ashley's going to talk with mommy while you two go play."

"Can I talk with you?"

"We're going to talk about adult things, so why don't you just go with your sister?"

"Okay." He ran off to go climb the monkey bars and do whatever toddlers did on playgrounds.

"Stubborn brats." I said as we sat on one of the benches that was put in place for parents to watch their kids.

Ashley laughed, "No they're not, I think they're adorable."

"Try living with them."

"Are you asking me to move in with you?" Ashley put her hand on her chest and widened her eyes for sarcastic effect.

"Fuck off."

She laughed.

"You're really good with them." I said in a more meaningful tone, "You'll make a great mom one day."

She smiled, "Thank you."

"Mhm, and you better cherish this moment for the rest of your life because I'm not saying anything that nice ever again."

"I will sincerely remember this very point in time on September 24th, 2022 at," She paused to check her phone, "eleven am."

I smiled, "Good."

"So I'm assuming that your husband is working?"

I nodded, "He's a data analyst for some huge company and only gets Sunday's off."
