Romans 13:11
Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.

Word Count: 4998"All we are asking is when.." I rub my temples at the agonising question that has been asked at least a million times by now. The question i know only how to run away from, its a lot easier than the other option.
"When is it going to be? how much longer are we going to have to wait?" My uncle's voice tries to be as gentle as possible which is like a siren in his terms, i guess you would have to be because he was the previous now retired chief officer, that was until the position was handed over to me.
Its a position that was given to 2 other people since the big passing of my father back in '09. It was a rough one for all of us, pops said he wanted to live long enough to see me wear his badge and take over from him but the crazy crackhead in possession of a gun had other plans.. My stomach wretches at the thought..
"Well? speak up boy-o!" He hurls at me with his arms glued to one another as they cross over on his built chest, growing up i always swore pops was a body builder, its was his size that intimidates the inmates and criminals, that and a mixture of his tone too.
It can make a grown man shudder and shake. I guess thats the one thing i inherited from the big man. pops side of the family is filled with men practically built to be leaders. I look back at my uncle, His eyebrow jumps up as his patience runs rapidly out of his body,
Silence is the murderer of the weak man He would try and force inside my head for years, i guess he thought i would be one of the guys who grow up to be in the army or something.
He saw it to be his mission to take over as a father figure in my life, to fulfill whatever role his brother was robbed the opportunity to do. It wasn't easy but i let him. I had to!
For the good of the family, for the good of philly. As soon as this young jit was old enough to buy my own alcohol i was put in official training.
Now im 27 and i am the chief officer, strength is my virtue,
"Well? Are you going to just keep staring at me or are you going to start speaking up for once?" Im strong, but my strength resides in something else... my silence. Something that drives the ol' man crazy...
He let out a huge huff and turned his back from me as i kept silently getting ready for work. Stupid questions like this only ever lead to arguments, useless arguments that i dont have any time for anymore, because somehow the answer wont be what they want to hear.
I slipped one arm into my jet black thick bulletproof uniform jacket. Designed with all types of badges and other unnecessary flashy medals to strike fear in the hearts of civilians, i suppose....
"Clark.. just leave the boy alone, if he's not ready then he's not ready." The gentle voice of my step-mother spoke with a mousy voice and high cheeks, Her dark black loose curls swept around her cheeks and framed her shy face.. Her eyes are hidden behind the heavy bags of fatigue, even though her skin is midnight black, i can still see how tired she is.
She used to never be like this, heck the joke of the family was she was tougher than all of our family members put together. Shes the one from chicago, they can hold their old as far as i am concerned. That was until the death of dad. When i say it took a toll on all of us, im not joking.
