"Another fight opposing Bonten and Berserk has broken out yesterday night in Shinjuku," the reporter said. "It is the fourth one this week, and the ninth one in the past two weeks. Following the sudden increase in influence from the Berserk gang, the police and the Mayor of Tokyo have expressed their concern to see another gang war destroying the streets of the city. The Chief of the Police Department of Tokyo has released a statement in which he declared to be "doing everything in his power to solve the situation as fast as possible" but also advise the population "to be careful and avoid the locations, especially at night, known to be strongly influenced by gangs". The Mayor of Tokyo has announced to increase in the number of patrolling troops in the streets to assure the protection of the civilians,"
The TV turned back as Hanabi switched it off. It startled Ruri a bit as she was very focused on what the news lady was saying. It was the end of the work and Sakiko, Ruri, and Hanabi were all in the staff room, gathering their things to return to their respective homes.
Days had passed since Sakiko gave Raven to Draken. And during this span of time, the news had been recurrently covering the situation between Bonten and Berserk. Fights were reported between subordinates of both gangs. It happened mostly in Roppongi, Shibuya, Yokohama, and now Shinjuku as well. It was not the first time fights between gangs would occur, though this time, it was different. The difference was that for the first time in many years, it involved two big criminal organizations. Usually, the police would apprehend small delinquents part of small gangs, usually, teenagers who wanted to feel strong and cool. But this time, it was grown armed adults with a lot of hidden influence that were on the battlefield. The fish was bigger. It had turned into a shark. Everyone knew it was different. These two gangs didn't care about anything. They could go as far as committing the unforgivable. And they already had. Corpses of subordinates from both gangs had already been found.
"It's getting scarier," Ruri muttered, her heel anxiously tapping onto the floor.
"If you keep watching that every day, you'll become paranoid," Hanabi said as she put her jacket on. "The newspapers are just maintaining the fear by constantly covering this topic. It'll die down soon,"
"But if they cover it, it means it's important," Ruri countered. "I mean, it's the ninth fight in two weeks! Some were even killed! And it's getting closer to us... it's the third fight in Shinjuku,"
"Saki, can you tell her she's putting too much thought on it?" Hanabi told the mother.
"Hm?" Sakiko looked up at them as she was tying her hair into a bun. "Well, media are biased, that's a known fact indeed,"
"Thank you!" Hanabi exclaimed.
"But," Sakiko continued. "It doesn't mean that what they are covering is always false. Bonten and Berserk increasing fights are also a known fact. And we shouldn't underestimate gangs so if Ruri's scared, that's valid. It always happens to others until it happens to you. So being careful is not being paranoid,"
"Thank you!" Ruri exclaimed as Hanabi sighed. "I knew I could count on you!"
Sakiko only patted her junior's head who had come to embrace her gratefully. The Yamashita girl knew how gangs could be dangerous. She had seen that with her own two eyes. She knew how far one could go. She underestimated a gang once, and it had taken her best friend's life. She would never do the same mistake again. No one should.
"I'll go now, I have to pick my daughter up," Sakiko said as she waved goodbye to her colleagues.
"Stay safe!" Ruri shouted as Sakiko left.
Truth be told, Sakiko was also worried about the conflict opposing Bonten and Berserk. She hadn't really paid attention at first, as gang fights were not new in town. However, Shinjuku seemed to be the new battlefield. She knew she was safe as no one could find out her past, though she couldn't help but be a little anxious at the idea that, maybe, someone had found out.
