It was early in the morning but the sun was already shining bright in the azure sky. The fresh breeze of the end of summer was blowing the petals of the flowers away as Draken walked into the plaza of Sakiko's apartment complex. He had a few minutes left before opening the shop so he wanted to crash by Sakiko's place. He had just finished the check-in and had a few improvements on Raven. He would soon put it on sale so he wanted to make sure one last time that Sakiko was okay with it. He knew how precious the bike was for her. It was the legacy of her late brother and a big part of her life. Giving it away was like closing this chapter for good. It was quite of a big deal.
However, when he got to her apartment, no one answered. It may be early in the morning but it was just before she would usually leave for work. So she should be up. Draken tried a few times and even called her but no answer. It was quite strange. Maybe she left early but her shift started at nine in the morning. It was still eight past twenty.
Draken deeply inhaled and decided to just text her, telling her to call him later. He just needed to be sure she and Emari were all right. Part of his visit was also to check up on them. Waking in the morning, he had heard the reporter say Berserk had trespassed in Shibuya again during the night. Some were spotted around Shinsei station which was near here. Draken had had a bad feeling since she got into an accident. If it had only been a coincidence back then, this time it might not be. He would rather be too prudent than not enough. If Berserk knew the truth, both Sakiko and Emari were in danger.
The man shortly closed his eyes and calmed down. Panicking was useless and would only obscure his judgment. Maybe Sakiko just left early. For now, all he could do was wait for her call so with that in mind, he walked away. But doing so, he finally caught sight of the caretaker whipping the floor. What caught his attention was the broken window of the caretaker's cabin.
"Oi, old man," Draken said, walking over to the man.
As Draken had lived here for a while and would come often, he was basically treated like a resident here. Everyone knew him and he was quite appreciated. He remembered he would have small talk with the caretaker when he would come back from work or grocery shopping for Sakiko when she was still pregnant.
"Someone broke into your cabin?" Draken asked. "You good?"
"I'm fine, kid. No worries," the old man smiled. He was glad to see Draken. Good kids like him, respectful and right, were rare these days. "It happened two nights ago when I wasn't there. When I left, it was all right. I came back in the morning only to see the window broken. Weird thing is that nothing has been stolen. I checked everything, nothing's missing. Probably some kids messing around. Heard some havoc that night,"
The black-haired man said nothing for a short moment. It could be kids playing around or it could be Berserk. And knowing they were around the previous night, it may be too much of a coincidence.
"Have you seen Saki?" Draken asked.
As the caretaker wakes up early to handle the whole building, he would always sees Sakiko leaving for work in the morning. The woman's morning greetings and the joy of her daughter always put him in a good mood to start the day.
"I've knocked but there was no one," he added.
"I haven't seen her," the old man shook his head. "Thought it was her day off. It was your friend's wedding this weekend, right? Maybe she stayed at a friend's for the weekend,"
Draken weakly nodded, lost in his thoughts. For now, it was better to agree with the old man so he would freak out. Maybe he was overreacting, or maybe it was his old habit of Toman's second in command, but something was not adding up. He had dropped both Sakiko and Emari home after the wedding.
