The sky was tainted with orange as a man stood outside the reception hall. Mikey stared at the beautiful white card in his hand with stylized gold edges. Graceful letters were centered, made with shining gold leaf, saying: HINATA & TAKEMICHI INVITES YOU TO THEIR WEDDING CELEBRATION. This card had been in his possession for a long time, hence why he had not been surprised when Kakucho told everyone about the wedding. Every now and then, Mikey would return to his old childhood house. When he needed to disconnect, when it was approaching the birthday of one of his late siblings, when it was approaching the birthday of his late friend, of his late mom, or of his late grandpa, Mikey would always return home. One day, a month before the wedding, Mikey caught sight of something in the mailbox. It was the wedding invitation with a name tag with his name on it. He had been quite surprised to see it. He was not surprised to learn that Takemichi was getting married. He was surprised to receive an invitation. After all these years, he had expected all of his old friends to loathe him. And yet, Takemichi still made an invitation for him. He still invited him knowing what he had become.
Everyone was dressed fancily as they danced and enjoyed themselves on this blissful day. Away from them all, Mikey observed his old friends celebrating one of the happiest days of his other friends. Mikey had always known it would end this way. This future, he had always pictured it. Takemichi and Hinata getting married, Mitsuya having his own brand, Hakkai working in the same field, Nahoya and Souya owning a ramen shop, Pah-chin taking over his dad's business with Peh-yan working with him, Chifuyu owning a pet shop and Kazutora helping him, and Draken owning a motorcycle shop with Inupi. Mikey had always pictured this future vividly for all of them. And just like he imagined, he was not part of it. And it was a major reason why he was possible.
There was only one person he had never managed to picture a future for. This beautiful woman holding her daughter in her arms, Yamashita Sakiko. He had failed to picture a future for her own. For that, he could not help but fancy one where he was part of it. He could not help but dream of a life where they would be together. But this could not happen. He knew that a life with him in it was a life of suffering. And he did not wish to put her through that. She deserved the happiest and most peaceful life that exists. And that, he could not give it to her. So for her to have a normal and good life, he removed himself from the story, of her story.
Seeing them so happy, seeing his daughter having such a huge smile on her lips, Mikey knew it had been the best decision. He knew it would have never happened if he had stayed in their lives. And yet, why was his heart paining? Why did it have a bittersweet taste?
His thoughts came to an end when he felt a buzzing in his pocket. Relieved that he wouldn't lose himself in the storm inside his head, Mikey took his phone. It was a call from Sanzu.
"Mikey," Sanzu said, the voice serious, once his boss answered the call. "Something weird's going on,"
Mikey frowned.
"We got multiple reports saying Berserk underlings has been spotted in Shibuya,"
"They got into our turf?" Mikey said, quite surprised.
It had been days since Berserk hadn't made a move on Bonten. They had been battling in different business fields but that was it. Physical fights had not been a thing since the cleanse of Yokohama, Asakusa, and Shinjuku. If Berserk got onto Bonten's territory, it meant that they were up to no good. But what exactly? Their goal was unclear. They wanted to be the number one criminal organization again, but something was strange.
"Yeah. That means nothing good is coming," Sanzu gravely sighed.
"Summon everyone to the conference room," Mikey demanded.
It did not take much time for Mikey to get to the headquarter. And when everyone was there, the debrief was quickly made. Apparently, units of Berserk trespassed in Shibuya and Shibuya only. No reports were made in other districts, meaning no one got onto the territory. Or at least, no one had been caught.
