Sakiko had not spoken to Mikey since their fight. And it was all fine with her. She did not want to see him. She did not want to talk to him. She did not want to eat with him. She did not want to hear his voice. She wanted nothing to do with him. She was making sure not to bump into him. Because the simple sight of him would remind her of their row. Because the simple sight of him would anger her. Because the simple sight of him would make her heart miss a beat. Because the simple sight of him would make her irritation waver. She was lost. He pushed her to oblivion.
Luckily, Emari was there to occupy her. Being a child, she had rapidly forgotten her sad episode of the day before and was ecstatic at the idea of going to school. Her natural joy and energetic self attracted the entirety of Sakiko's attention which allowed her to think about something else than her anger for Mikey. Though, when the moment she dropped Emari at school, her mind would inevitably go back to that fight.
It was clear that Mikey had lied to her. That he cared for her. That he wanted them to live with him. She knew that. He wanted to protect her. She knew that. And she had no problem with that. In fact, she was very grateful to him. After all, he was making sure her daughter was alright. The problem was that this proximity between them was making it harder for both of them. His kindness towards her, his little attention, the way he looked at her; all that made Sakiko's heart go mad. All that made her want to be with him. The way he behaves with her inevitably makes her think that, maybe, it was possible. It made her dream. But all these dreams just got crushed, vanished, annihilated.
If he truly did not want anything to happen between them, then he was being unfair. Cruel, even. It infuriated Sakiko. If he knew that nothing would ever occur again, if he knew it would never be possible to rekindle what they had; then he should have never looked at her as if he wanted her; he should have never shown any type of affection to her; he should have never gotten closer to Emari. Sakiko felt played. She felt as if she had been led on. He ignited her love back only to switch it off right after. It hurts. Everything hurts. Everything was just incredibly annoying, bothering, infuriating. It was just a whole nightmare. Berserk, Bonten, Mikey. Everything.
"Lady Sakiko," the woman snapped back from her thoughts and looked at Kousuke. He was already gazing at her through the rearview mirror. "We're back,"
The car was indeed stopped in the underground parking lot of Bonten's apartment complex. Sakiko muttered a little courtesy and stepped out of the fancy car. She felt heavy the moment she entered the complex back. She felt crushed as if a burden was weighing on her shoulders. She felt pressed as if the air was thicker, suffocating her. Her heart was tight, her throat blocked by a lump. Was she really obliged to go back to the penthouse? Did she really have to? Doing nothing; listening to the back and forth of the yakuza in the corridors; observing the fancy vehicles leaving and returning to the complex; occasionally seeing some of them with blood on their hands and guns strapped to their hips; being glued to the TV and obsessing over the news channel waiting for anything about Berserk to pop up in the hope for them to announce the dislocation of the gang. Did she really have to come back? Ruminating about the past, about Mikey, wondering what she had done wrong, what she did not do, what she should have done, fancying about a new life, a better life with everyone she loved, wishing the lost ones would be here with her. Did she really have to come back? To that castle in the sky. To that golden cage.
Sakiko pursed her lips. Her hand stopped just before the elevator button. She bit her cheek. Looking discreetly to her side, she saw Kousuke taking a turn in the corridor and leaving for his own apartment on the first floor. She looked back at the elevator. She stared at it for a moment. Did she really have to go back? It had been a while since Berserk had not caused trouble. She bit her lip harder. Just a day. Just a day should be fine.
