(TW: mention of rape and murder. Also, violence and bloody things happen in this chapter)
Winter's pov:
Since we didn't have wires like cops have, to listen to Bruno's conversation, so we're listening to it through a phone call.
We're at an abandoned building. Ever since I got here, I've been racking my brain what it was used for before a fire destroyed it. There are big rooms all up and down the building, at least six floors to this too. In the middle of the building is like a yard. Its not very big. The building surrounds it, and there is no ceiling over it. There's a bench, and dust and oddly enough, vines. Vines that crawled up the railings and walls. Was this some sort of school, or hospital?
Bruno stood in the middle of this yard, waiting. It wasn't until almost 30 minutes of being here, when someone finally showed. The men outside texted Nic to let him us know he was here. But he wasn't alone, as expected. They saw Lucien get out of the car, but they didn't have a clear shot. He was being protected. Lucien is certainly prepared for everything.
Nic and I hid in the shadows. We're in the room across from the yard, which I feel like this was a cafeteria of some sort. I only say that because of the windows and the large open room. It reminds me of school.
Nic has his hand gripped on his gun that is placed in his holster, on his hips. He straighter up when we saw someone approaching Bruno. Unfortunately, it wasn't Lucien.
"Well, well, well." We heard him say. Nic and I are wearing Bluetooth ear pieces so, not only can we both hear it, but so they don't know we're here. "This is surprising. Never expected Nicolas' right hand man to show up. I guess threats really do get things done. Unless you're not here alone." I couldn't really see him. I could only see the side of him, and the sun wasn't really giving much light. All I know, as that he's a couple inches shorter than Bruno. "Which would be a problem." He continued.
"Who are you?" Bruno asked. He sounded annoyed. "The deal was, I'm supposed to meet Lucien. So where is he? And who are who?"
His laugh gave me chills. I don't feel good about something all of a sudden. 'They know we're here.' A voice in my head said. It's a good thing we've prepared for this.
I grabbed Nic's arm and mouthed that they know we're here. He gave me a confused look. "How do you know?" He mouthed back.
Before I could reply, we were interrupted by the guys voice. "You really think he was gonna give you chance to kill him? Nah. He's smarter than that." He placed his hand on Bruno's shoulder. Bruno looked at where his hand was, and I knew he wanted to break it. "Now. How do I know you're here alone?"
"I can't prove it you. So, you'll just have to trust me." Bruno answered, removing his hand. The man scoffed. "Look dude, you're pissing me off. I'm here, because Lucien threatened my family. I'm also here, to know exactly why he contacted me. My guess is..." he leaned down to meet the dudes eyes. "Is that you don't know. And if you do... mind telling me why you're stalling?"
It looked like the dude was about to say something, but someone cut him off. Lucien. I'd recognize that voice anywhere. "Because I want you by my side."
Nic and I followed the voice, which lead to the second floor. His hands laid on the black railing and he leaned into it. He looked at Bruno with a sinister smirk.
"I gathered that." Bruno's voice was laced with anger and hatred. "But it's more than that, isn't it?"
While Bruno was speaking, Nic was texting the others where Lucien is. He looked at me, debating on something. "Go." I shooed him away. I knew exactly what he was thinking. "I'll be fine."
He gave me the phone, a quick kiss on the head, and ran.
