Chapter Twelve
TerminusThe day after the fact they were back on the road, or more specifically, tracks. There wasn't any explicit talking about it other than a 'how are you?'. The mood had changed because they had as well. They were processing it and now Daryl was with them. Things were just different.
Alyssa never understood why her therapist always wanted to talk about how she felt about change. Supposedly, a lot of autistic people had trouble with it, but she was never one of them. She tried to rationalize it and adapt, just like anyone else would. Now she'd just have to rationalize what happened and adapt to living through it. It should be easier now that she had people around her who understood her and cared for her.
Carl was probably the person that understood her the most and she felt the same about him. They didn't have to say anything to know how the other felt. Carl saw her body language and reached out to her, taking her hand as they walked. It was one of the ways they adapted: they supported each other.
"We're getting close," Daryl pointed out as they were stopped at a broken Terminus sign. "Be there before sundown."
"Now we head through the woods," Rick told the group. "We don't know who they are." They went off trail like Rick told them to and kept walking until they saw a fence. Through the gaps, they saw the terrain and buildings. It looked relatively safe.
"We all spread out, watch for a wall, see what we see. Get ready," Rick instructed. "We all stay close."
"All right," Daryl answered with a nod and he and Michonne headed out.
Rick put his hand on Carl's shoulder. "You wanna stick with me?"
Carl shrugged. "It's alright," he replied.
Rick turned to Alyssa. "How about you?"
Alyssa let go of Carl's hand. The boy gave her a confused look as she turned to his dad. "Actually, yeah," she answered, turning back to Carl. "Is that okay?"
Carl nodded. "Yeah, yeah. Go ahead," he told her before he ran to catch up with Michonne.
Rick patted her shoulder. "Come on," he told her as he started walking.
"Wait," Alyssa stopped him. "We should have a failsafe, just in case. We should bury it," she suggested, pointing to his bag.
Rick nodded. "I was thinking the exact same thing,"
────── Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ ──────After burying the bag, they climbed over the fence one by one. All of them had their weapons drawn as they snuck through the place. They traced around a building, going in the first door they could find.
Inside, a woman sat behind a radio broadcasting device, repeating the same message over and over again. A bunch of people were making maps just like the ones they'd seen along the way.
