Chapter Thirty-Three
JesusAfter Glenn and Maggie left to finish something in the garden, Alyssa stuffed some pillows under the covers in her room and closed the door behind her. She had changed into her pajamas and it was completely dark outside by now. Why the hell Maggie and Glenn wanted to work on the garden now, she'd never know. Maybe that was their secret spot.
Anyway, it was good for her because it meant she could sneak out a lot easier. On the less lucky side, the lights were still on next door. So, Rick and Michonne were still up. That meant she had to climb onto the house and sneak in through Carl's window.
Alyssa cursed at every noise she made. The creaking wood, her footsteps on the roof. The worst was the window slamming shut because of the wind before she could climb through it. She held her breath and stayed silent until she saw Carl approach the window.
"What are you- never mind. Just come in," Carl told her after he opened the window. he held it open as she stepped inside and then shut and locked it.
Alyssa took off her shoes and set them under the window. "Your dad and Michonne were still up. Couldn't go through the door," she explained and hugged him. "So how was your day?"
"I found Deanna," Carl said as he sat down on the bed, tugging on her hand to pull her next to him. "With Enid. In the woods."
"Oh..." Alyssa frowned. "What did you do?"
Carl shook his head. "Nothing. Enid wanted to take care of it. She doesn't understand," he sighed.
"Understand what?"
"It should be someone who loved her," Carl explained. "Anyway, I came across Michonne and Spencer. He did it."
Alyssa nodded. "That's good. He got closure."
"I knew you'd get it," Carl said. "With your parents and all."
Alyssa's face dropped, in disbelief that he would bring that up as a comparison. "My parents weren't Walkers, Carl. They hadn't turned yet."
"I know. Neither had my mom. I just meant...don't you think it's good that it was you and not some stranger?" he asked.
Alyssa sighed and pulled her knees up to her chest. "Yes. I feel better knowing they're not still roaming somewhere out there," she admitted. "I got to say goodbye."
"Yeah..." Carl said. "Was your day okay?"
Alyssa nodded and rested her chin on top of her knees. "Yeah. A little boring, but that means it was a good day. No wounded or anything."
"Good. Well, I gotta get changed and everything, I'll be right back, okay?" Carl told her before standing up.
Alyssa changed her position and laid back on the bed. "You need any help with your bandage?" she asked.
