Vegas stood just as frozen as Pete appeared, the words he uttered repeating loudly in his head. If there was any moment Vegas felt like a complete moron, it was right now. Don't get him wrong, it's not like he didn't know the consequences of his behaviour. In fact, every possibility of how Pete would possibly react ran through his mind the instant he uttered the other's name. 'Pete...' he thought. He was a combination of angry, embarrassed and more than anything in the world, he wanted to leave this venue, this country and this universe right now.
Vegas deeply regretted what had said. He didn't know how he was going to explain to Pete what he did, he didn't know how he was going to explain the everyone when Pete coldly rejected him. He didn't know anything. He just wished he could turn back time and not act on impulse again...
Vegas felt someone touch his arm and he barely registered that it was Pete who stood next to him. When he eventually noticed his fellow doctor, he shuffled in his spot uneasily, unsure of what to do and say next.
Contrary to what Vegas assumed would happen, Pete wrapped his arm around his, as if they were a couple? Now Vegas was more confused than anything else. Was Pete helping him? Why would he help him? What on Earth was going on?
'Pete?' the elderly man spoke in utter disbelief. 'You're dating Dr. Theerapanyakun...?'
Vegas was about to speak when Pete held tighter onto his arm and looked at him, with the widest and brightest smile on his face. Pete came closer to him and closed his eyes, before placing a soft kiss on Vegas' cheek.
Vegas could feel the blood rush to his face the closer Pete came. He couldn't for a second believe he had just kissed him. Vegas turned to Pete who seemed so happy, yet unphased by what happened.
'Yes, Doctor, this is my boyfriend, Dr. Theerapanyakun...' Pete spoke proudly.
'What?' Vegas thought to himself. What the actual fuck was going on? Vegas nodded and smiled as they both looked in the direction of the elder man. 'No women for me, when I have the handsomest boyfriend ever...' Vegas finally spoke out as he looked at Pete with a soft smile.
And then it crossed his mind. He didn't even try to deny his new found, sudden feelings. When Vegas looked at Pete in that instant all he thought was, 'I really wish we weren't pretending right now. I wish I was actually dating Pete.'
Vegas just shook his head trying to rid his mind of these impossible thoughts. He turned to the elder man and it appeared that he couldn't fathom how Vegas, the miserable and cold man who got cheated on and remained single for such a long time, was finally in a relationship again. The man walked away without any further commentary, leaving Pete and Vegas alone together.
Pete turned to Vegas and smiled. He didn't even say anything, he just removed his arm from Vegas'.
'I am so...' Vegas started. Pete shook his head and took Vegas' hand in his and kissed the back of his hand before lacing their fingers, leaving Vegas red in the face.
'Let's grab some champaign and find somewhere to sit,' Pete commented. That was all he said before walking with Vegas, not separating their hands once...
