"I love you."
"I love you."
"Nah, that's not possible, I love you way more."
"Never, I love you the most."
People in love were always in the own world and according the the head nurse that had to come and find Vegas after his very long break, people in love were also very irritating.
There were no words that could possibly describe the way Vegas was feeling right now. It was a combination of being extremely ecstatic, somewhat relieved and more than ever before desperate. Even though he was fairly certain that Pete and him would be together forever in this lifetime (and boy, if Pete ever tried his shit and left again, he'd show him no mercy in his attempts to bring him back), there was something in Vegas that was unsettled. Having spent such a long time away from Pete, the only thing that seemed to calm him down was direct physical contact with the other.
Vegas seemed to have forgotten all about working. And it was certain everyone knew he would end up in that state, Vegas included. His feelings for Pete ran so deep that he was now more than ever ready to sacrifice anything to spend time with Pete, but he knew this desire had to be used in moderation else Kinn would force him to resign and that would not be a very ideal outcome.
"I love you" were words Vegas never thought he'd hear again or even say again. On the odd occasion he'd mutter a derivate "love you, bro" to Macau but the last time he truly said those words with a romantic intention was with his ex. And what hurt even more was that Vegas was so simple with his romantic feelings. If he loved someone, he loved them whole heartedly and didn't hold back but every time he thought about his ex saying those words it was only ever during sex or to brush him off. It was as if his ex only said them for the sake of saying them, not with any real meaning.
Vegas was in a daze and he swear the whole world seemed brighter and more romantic as he sat with Pete on the roof top. After their confession, he kept asking the other to repeat those words out of disbelief that this was not in his imagination.
He held on tightly to Pete's hand caressing the back of his fingers and they both looked ahead but occasionally turned to each other and giggled just because they could. They were boyfriends after all.
The head nurse somehow knew there was something up between these two. She sensed some sort of tension and so when Pete asked her earlier where he could find Vegas, she knew better than to interrupt those two.
But, despite her very romantic and considerate gesture, there was no way Vegas would get away spending his whole shift not working.
She was angry and annoyed that Vegas had unintentionally abused her kindness and so decided to make her up to the roof to find him before Kinn got wind of his neglect to his patients.
When she slammed open the roof door, Vegas and Pete immediately let go of each other's hand and stood up turning to see who had arrived.
Vegas and Pete were both unsure of what to do in corporate situations with romantic relationships, but even though Kinn was dating a colleague, they knew that he still would not approve of them dating. But this time they were not going to let anything prevent them from being together especially now that they established that they probably would not be able to live without each other and so they had made the decision to keep this a secret for as long as possible.
"Dr. Theerapanyakun!" the head nurse shouted. "Your 15 minute break has turned into 45 minutes! You better get your ass back down there else I am telling Kinn!"
Vegas smiled and bowed slightly trying to apologize. "I'm so sorry. I didn't realize how-"
"Yes, you didn't realize that you were wasting time! Now get back downstairs you dingbat before this Kinn man finds out and gets us both into trouble!"
The head nurse almost played a sister role in Vegas' life. They were forever teasing each other and calling each other names but they both always had each other's backs. Moreover, they both seemed to understand each other fairly well. When Vegas first arrived at the hospital, it was clear that no one really liked him or wanted to spend time around him because of his difficult personality, but the head nurse always took the time out for him and sat with him or accompanied him whenever she got this chance. So Vegas did feel bad for putting her in this position in pursuit of his romantic relationship.
"Give me your phone, Pete," he ordered, holding out his hand.
And with a confused look, the other obeyed as the head nurse stood with her arms crossed as she watched them
"Dingus, just hurry up!" she said tapping on her wristwatch. "The longer you take, the greater the chances of Kinn finding out are."
"I'm done. I'm done," Vegas spoke out as he handed Pete's phone back to him. "You better the fuck call me and not ghost me again. Because, I swear I am not losing you again..." he added before walking off with the head nurse.
"Pete," Vegas said before they left causing the other to turn around once again. "I love you," he added causing them both to smile.
When the door closed behind them as they made their way down the stairs, the head nurse wrapped her arm around Vegas' shoulder, "Sooooo does my lil bro have a boyfriend now?" she said in a mocking and playful tone.
