There was this obvious sadness between the two of them as they made their way back to the hotel. It was as if they knew that once it was midnight they fake relationship was over and to Vegas these past few hours had been some of the best he had in the last few years.
"Do you come around here often?" Pete asked.
"Not exactly. I am only ever out here on conference and the last one was a couple of years ago."
"Really? Then can we go for a short walk before we go back to the hotel?" he asked with a bright smile on his face. "I actually grew up in this area and haven't ever been able to show anyone around her before..."
Vegas nodded with a soft smile, "I'd love that."
It was almost as if this gave him hope that the night wasn't at it's end just yet. His heart ached knowing that this relationship was nothing but fake. Somehow, Vegas wished it was real; he wanted it to be real so badly...
Pete held onto Vegas' hand which made his heart skip a beat. It felt like they were back in the conference room; when they were alone and were introducing themselves. Vegas wanted to go back to that time again; he wish he could relive the last few hours he shared with Pete all over again.
"Do you like the ocean?" Pete asked as they both walked along the sand with their fingers laced together.
"I do. A lot. Before my mother passed on this was her favourite place to visit and during my med school days when things got a bit a bit difficult I used to go down to the beach and sit on the sand..."
Pete grew silent as he listen to Vegas spoke. "It's the same with me. Medical school was so far away from my family and since we used to live close to the ocean, going to the sea would remind me of home."
Vegas caressed the back of Pete's hand with his thumb in an effort to comfort him.
"Let's sit?" Pete suggested. Vegas nodded and sat close beside him, they hands still joined as they both looked out into the distance.
"You must be glad now that your medical school days are over; you can go back to live with your family; surely it makes everything a lot easier..."
Pete didn't say anything. He didn't even look in Vegas' direction.
"Thank you for today," Vegas finally spoke out. "It's been a while since I've had such a good time. So thank you," he added.
Pete turned to Vegas and smiled; both of them moved slightly closer before Pete placed his lips on Vegas' leaving a soft kiss.
"Thank you for agreeing to be my boyfriend for today. You have been the best fake boyfriend anyone could ever ask for."
Vegas chuckled a little and dropped his head blushing slightly. "Yeah, fake boyfriend..." he repeated with a pang of sadness filling his heart.
