As Vegas stood up on the podium, the words seemed to flow out of his mouth as if he was never nervous. People engaged, they laughed along, asked questions, clapped... For the first one of these events wasn't as terrible as Vegas anticipated.
But then it hit him. He was too caught up in the romance of the moment, he had forgotten how much of this night was based on a fake relationship. Vegas looked out into the crowd. His attention immediately focussed on Pete. There was no way he couldn't notice Pete, especially when his smile practically lit up the room.
Vegas' heart ached, and he tried to keep his smile when he laid his eyes on Pete. More than anything else, he wanted ever part of this night to be his reality, but he knew better than to be so hopeful.
Vegas walked down from the stage, earning a standing ovation as he made his way to Pete. 'I'm going to the bathroom real quick. I'll be back.' And without waiting for any additional comment from the male, Vegas had walked out the room.
The silence of the hallway was deafening and the yellowish light that reflected off the mirrored walls in the bathroom was blinding. Vegas felt his senses being so overstimulated that his head was throbbing.
As the bathroom door closed behind him, Vegas fell to the floor clutching his chest and shutting his eyes tightly. He felt like a fraud. He hated deceit, but that was exactly what he did tonight. He deceived so many people. He hated how he was feeling. His sudden romantic interest in someone he had just met was pissing him off. Pete was pissing him off. As much as Vegas wanted him so badly, he couldn't for a second understand why Pete was behaving the way he was. Nothing was making sense anymore.
'Vegas?' he heard someone call out softly. He immediately recognized the voice.
'What do you want?' He barked as ran both his hands through his head after standing up.
'I just wanted to check if you were okay,' Pete spoke softly again.
Vegas laughed hysterically. 'Now why the fuck would you do something like that? I am nothing to you. No one to you. We are not real boyfriends!' he shouted, slamming his fist against the wall repeatedly.
Pete flinched each time his fist hit the wall. Vegas felt bad for scaring Pete but his anger was consuming him. He ran his hands through his hair and walked over to the bathroom mirror where watched his enraged self as he leaned against the basin.
'I don't get this. I don't get you,' Vegas said fairly calmly. 'Why are you doing this?'
'I don't know,' Pete spoke very faintly.
'What do you mean you don't know? You don't even know me and yet you are pretending to be my boyfriend?' Vegas walked over to Pete. His anger reached its limit. He wrapped his hand around Pete's neck and pulled him closer to him. 'I know I started this. But why are you so happily following along? You're confusing me. I don't fucking like it!'
Vegas turned his head away but he could still hear Pete's whimpers. He wanted to let go. He didn't know why he reacted like this. He knew Pete would hate him for it. Vegas looked down at Pete when he felt his hands wrap around his arm causing him to widen his eyes.
His does eyes once again dulled Vegas' anger as he looked up at him. 'Please,' Pete said softly as tears filled his eyes. 'I beg you, please can we just pretend until the end of the night?'
