Later that evening, I laid on the bed next to Carl. We were back at the house in the room that he had called claims on. I had my eyes closed as I laid against the soft pillow on my side. I had been dozing in and out of sleep as Carl allowed his thoughts to swallow him.

Every time I opened my eyes, his blue ones were staring at the ceiling. I had almost made a snarky comment a couple of times about how the ceiling must be hot if he kept staring at it, but I knew he needed this moment to really think. I could tell by the way he would take a deep breath every now and then that he was growing deeper and deeper into his own mind.

I was halfway asleep when a knock echoed off the door. I didn't move nor did Carl. He simply turned his head to see who the intruder was.

"Hey. She asleep?" I could hear Rick's deep voice ask as he entered the room.

"Almost." Carl said. The bed moved slightly and soon fingers glided across my forehead. I didn't have the energy to move and just laid there. "She's been in and out for a while now."

"She's worried about you." Rick said. The fingers moved away from my face and the bed moved again. "How was Ron's house?"

"What do you think of this place?" Carl answered his father's question with a question.

"Well, I think it seems..." Rick trailed off. "nice."

"Yeah. I like it here. I like the people." Carl told him. "But they're weak. And I don't want us to get weak, too."

"Hmm." Rick hummed at his son's words. "We won't."

It was quiet for a little while and for a second I could have sworn Rick had left, but I hadn't heard his footsteps leave.

"I'm worried about her too." Carl mumbled, fingers move a strand of hair from face and placed it behind my ear. "It's weird being around so many other teenagers. Back at the prison, it was Beth and the rest of us. Now it's us and them. She makes friends so easily. I don't know how to do that."

"Well, you're friends with Alex and Olivia, right?" Rick asked, "It's the same way."

"I'm pretty sure they only became friends with me because of her, dad." Carl huffed. "I don't want to worry over such normal teenage things when we've literally faced death every day. But what happens if she falls for Mikey or Ron? I can handle walkers, but I don't think I could handle that."

"What if you fall for Enid?" Rick questioned his son. My heart dropped to my stomach at the man's words. What if Carl fell for Enid? "Carl, the world is getting bigger. We're meeting more people. I don't want to tell you not to worry about this because it could happen. When you two first got together, you thought that she was the last girl in the world. Now you know she isn't. How do you know you won't fall for someone else?"

"Because, dad.." Carl started, huffing in aggravation before his voice became sincere. "I love her, dad. And I didn't fall in love with her because she was the last girl in the world. I fell in love with her because she's the only girl on this earth that means the world to me."
