Over the next few weeks, we traveled to Virginia; Noah's home. The last he had heard about his home was that it was secure. There were walls and about twenty people. We didn't know if it was still there or just a pipe dream, but at this point, we didn't have anything to lose. Other than ourselves.

Every time I closed my eyes, I saw another memory with Beth from start to finish. I had bags under my eyes from where I struggled to sleep. Most nights I just let Carl use my lap or shoulder as a pillow while I stared up at the stars.

Once we got close to Noah's community, the vehicles stopped. Rick decided it was best to split up. One look at my face and he told me that I was strictly staying in the vehicle with Carol's group. I didn't argue since I didn't have the energy.

Rosita dug through a bag of hers until she found a small medicine bottle. She popped it open and passed three pills to me. I looked at her confused until she said, "These will help you sleep. Take them. You look like a walker."

I fiddled with the pills in my hand until Carl grabbed my wrist. I looked up to see his blue eyes looking down on me in worry. "Take them. I won't leave your side until you wake up." He whispered to me. "If you have any nightmares, I'll wake you up."

"Promise?" I asked quietly.

He placed a kiss to my forehead before saying, "I promise. Get some sleep."

I nodded my head and took the pills I had been given. Carl allowed me to lay my head on his lap as I closed my eyes. He rubbed my hair softly making me sleepier than before. He bent down and softly kissed my forehead again. "Get some rest, love. I'll be here when you open your eyes."

With that I fell into a deep sleep without a single care.

A very specific memory flooded my head from the first time I met Beth.

There on a bed similar to the one I had been on, sat a teenage girl with a notebook. She had blonde hair that was held back in a ponytail and soft green eyes like Maggie. She smiled up at Maggie before realizing I was there. She looked surprised at first, but then smile brightly at me as she had done Maggie. "Emily, this is Beth. Beth, this is Emily."

"Hey." Beth said, a southern accent pulling through strongly. I just waved slightly and played with my ear. It's a thing I did commonly when I was nervous or felt off.

"Beth, we were wondering if you had any old clothes that might fit Emily. I was going to let her get a bath while Patricia cooked dinner." Maggie said, taking Beth's attention off of me.

"Of course." The blonde said happily. She got off her bed and walked to her closet. After pulling a big box off of the top shelf, she turned back to us. "These are all my old clothes. I'm sure there's something in there you can fit. You look about my size when I was your age."
